I've got two Casablanca fans with bad RMM controller boards (the other end of the W-32 Intellisense switch). One board is totally gone, the other I'm told (by Casa-tech support) is on its way, it will not dim/shut off the light, you have to use the power switch instead.
Since the both of these boards blew after less than 5 years of ownership, I have no interest in staying on that $400+/decade treadmill. I love the fans, hate the controllers, (and their support too for that matter--they take longer to answer than 9 outta 10 tech support calls I make.) Oh and the second board blew after I had a whole-house surge protector installed, so those blamed things are just too sensitive in my own experience-- maybe I have just been incredibly unlucky. BTW, get one of these whole-house surge babies, *everything* electronic lasts longer, including lightbulbs!
Anyway, I've been trying to figure out how to replace the controller with one of those cheapo hampton bay remotes (with a themostatic function I want) from home depot.
I can not find a wiring diagram to save my life for this motor, which I presume is a K-55 knockoff called XLP-200 I think. I'm looking at white, brown and red wires going into the motor. I'm guessing I'm going to want to scrounge the 10 Mfp cap off the controller board, and maybe route the power through one of the resistors wrapped around the motor. I don't care if I can't get the thing up to the 8 gazillion RPM its capable of, I just looove the really slow speed its capable of, so the resistors will take some experimentation.
The remote only provides line and neutral, so I'm guessing I hook the extra wire up with a cap attached. Looking inside the new controller, its got a bunch of smaller caps. Not sure how that plays.
Has anyone done this before? Does anyone have a guess how to do it? I'll try anything as long as it does not risk damaging the motor. (I'm a software guy, not a hardware guy!)
Thanks in advance!
