Over christmas break we went shopping at several places I hadn't been to in a long time. Walmart now has HB industrials in fabric and photo finishing, HB quick connect I think in the jewelry dept. There used to be 2 36" industrials in the indoor garden section very close to the ceiling. Now there is 1 close to the ceiling and 2 on long downrods over the registers 2 of them were on. One over the register was bent blades and wasn't on. The store used to have white flush mount Laskos in the old snack bar. Their fan selection was horrible. Cheap fans with party bulbs. I also saw some mix and match fans with just the motors. -- Kmart still has some Originals in snack bar. Fan selection is scary: there is a chrome spinner with 3 gooseneck lights. None of them seem to be hooked up, I don't ever remember them being hooked up ever. -- Wendy's still has 2 Encon brass small huggers in the front glass area. I am really glad they left them. I remember when they put them in back in the late 90s. Captain D's has 2 fans the brown Hunter Original 4 blade and a Casablanca silver 5 blade that replaced another original. Arby's still has white 4 blade huggers with stencil.

None of them seem to be hooked up, I don't ever remember them being hooked up ever. K-mart moved and/or disconnected their fan displays around 1997-1998. the cloud displays were done away with completely, while the integrated shelf displays were simply disconnected. After 1998 or so, newer K-marts had electrified displays again. BUT, recently they had been removing the disconnected displays all together. There are a few hooked up displays still remaining, but they are VERY rare.

I should add that on my last visit to Lowe's Hunter came out with a model called the 'Santa Barbara' It looks almost like a Beacon Hill but with a 46" bladespan.

When I first saw those out of the corner of my eye, I thought that some of the individuals who work there just assembled a regular 52" fan with just the blade brackets and no blades.

I used to work at K-mart, and ironically Wal-Mart.
The K-mart I worked at was circa 1978, and in the break room there were two SMC Emperors, in the managers office a variable 36" SMC Laguna, in the admin office was a white with gold stripes Atlantc Air, and in the auto center were five Hunter Studio Series. They were taken right off the shelf back in the 1980's. in the snackbar, after the 1993 remodel supported four 42" Originals. I worked there around 2000. At the time, we still had the isle long display with mainly Heritage and a few oddball Hunters. The display did have power, but none of the fans were wired up. The store closed in 2003, I had quit long before that. The store was turned in to a Hobby Lobby, not sure if those fans in the office still exist, but the auto center was torn down and incorperated with the rest of the store.
The thrift store I often frequent too was an old K-mart, yet they still have the four originals hanging up in the former snack bar (they keep the appliances in that area now). Never used though.
Back in the early 1990s, late 1980s we'd go to K-mart all the time (was living in IL at the time) due to Wal-Mart hadn't moved in yet. They had a 'cloud' fan display made of a dark colored wood with those lucite light panels between the wood supports, almost every K-mart back in the day had that set up. There hung old 4 blade hunters, old SMCs including a brown Lugana with a large globe light kit which got my attention (was attracted to smaller fans back then, as I was a small person). Across from that Laguna was a white one, but with a school house light kit. All the fans were powered up and running. I also remember seeing several Hunter originals on the bottom shelf in the large rectangular boxes.
At the Wal-mart I worked at, it was brand new (2001 at the time) so the only fans were the crappy display ones and the Industral above the photo lab. There were three Hampton Bay outdoor fans in the patio shop. One met the fate of the forklift and was poorly replaced with some white fan with three lights they took off the shelf. This past November I was down there, and the fans on the patio shop were replaced with Hampton Bay Industrails with those funky blades.
At the local Burger King by the dealer I work at hangs six antique brass with reversaire Hunter Originals. One has those cheap 'Fan-Tec' replacement blades and holders.
The Wendys down the road has two polished brass Delta I's in the dining room, and on the atrium are two 38" LCA four seasons with the 'mushroom' light. They are Inteli-Touch and never used.

The Wally World near me had 2 56" industrials with upward curved blades over the food court usually off or spinning on low and 1 60" industrial with straight blades over the photo lab always spinning on high. Whenever I go there to randomly look at the ceiling fans in the ceiling fan section, I jokeingly ask one of the WalMart employees for (that one)... and point to the industrial over the photo lab which abutts the lighting/ceiling fan section.

WalMart here has 4 Nutone industrials. I havent seen KMarts with the Originals for some time. I remember when every Wendy's used to have Casablancas and Burger King had Originals or Nutones or the like . . . but those days are long gone for me. We have a detailed thread about this somewhere.

Casablanca must have signed a contract with Wendy's back when it was standard to put ceiling fans in fast food restaurants... I have never seen anything but Casablancas in Wendy's. There are still about a half dozen Wendy's in the Dayton area that still have the original Delta I's. I have also seen many NuTones, Fascos, Casablancas and Thomas Lighting fans(Fasco copies) in Arby's... but hardly any more... never a fan in a McD's or a Burger King withen the past five to ten years or so... when I did see them, it was almost always Casablanca, but then the ceilings were falsified in Burger King. One time, I did see Harbor Breezes in the same location as were the Casablancas were prior to the remodeling.
As far as fans in stores, Wal-Mart has a 52" Five Blade Craftmade Contemporary Hugger style fan in white with four frosted cone shades(box says Litex on bottom). It is really not a bad deal for $29.99 if you are looking to put a fan in a secondary room, or need something new to trade someone.

I have seen other fans in Wendy's-- usually builders or small cheap huggers. But they are the exception. Growing up it was always Casablancas, usually Deltas.
McDonalds seems to have also been predominantly Casablanca although there are many exceptions. The same thing with Burger King and Hunter.
I'm sure when you buy in bulk, be it through a supplier or direct from the company, you get a much better deal.

The McDs around here never seemed to have any ceiling fans at all. The BK near me had 2 Delta IIs, most Wendy's had Lady Deltas with brass and wood blades if I recall. The T.G.I. Fridays had Dark colored 52" Verandas always off or very slow, and 1 36" Hunter Original over the bar that was always on high. One of the Verandas had only 3 blades, I remember that fan freaking me out as a child. (LOL). Pretty much every fan had at least one runaway balloon string stuck to the blade brackets from time to time. The Fuddruckers had a room full of Hunter Originals with schoolhouse lights and one with a globe light. Chain restaurants ex. Fuddruckers, the 99, Outback, Ruby Tuesdays, Chilis, BK, McDs, etc.. have so much buying power, they can get really nice fans for pennies on the dollar; at least until the next redesign, when the fans are ripped out and dumpsterized.

A Friday's near me had black Originals and Coastal Breezes... ok, not very interesting... but near the bar, there were a couple really old Hunters(like from the 1920's) and a CasaBlanca Victorian. Last year the building was remodeled... and the fans are history.
Regarding McD's... Last fall I recall seeing chrome Lady Delta's in a McDonald's near the University of Kentucky... the place was decorated in a pretty elaborate scheme.

Apparently, all of TGI Friday's old decor went into a warehouse somewhere, possibly to be auctioned off. for more information: 1-800 Friday's Most McDs around me have changed over to more rustic, homey decor. However, one Mcdonalds near me still has three casablanca four blade delta IIs and two hampton bay cameron IIs in the playplace, which have both been choked by balloons.

;D Yeah, it seems quite the rarity that a family style restaurant wouldn't have some random balloon strings swinging around the blade brackets. Waitstaff comes over to the table...Happy birthday kiddo... here's a balloon... YAY balloon goes high... balloon goes higher... balloon goes...BAM... AW CRAP!!!

I was in Los Angeles recently. The vast majority of fans I saw were new Hampton Bay type things . . . but I did spot a McDonalds with four K63 Victorians, and a bar with two K63 Broadway Limiteds.
