I went trick 'r treating a few days ago not only for the crapload of candy, but for the fans. My neighborhood is FULL of old fans, it is at least 60 years old. I saw a number of really cool fans while going about.
I saw a number of SMCs, an A-52, a U-42, and a laguna.
The A-52 is extremely unusual! This fan has a newer motor housing, ball/socket canopy, newer cane blades, and heart blade brackets. the unusual part is that the blades are SQUARE BOTTOM with NEWER CANE. The brackets are full size and the switch housing is the older casablanca style. Oh, and this one has FIVE blades.
The U-42 was nothing unusual, but it did have a brown motor.
the laguna was also very unusual, it is 22K gold plated. These ones are rare. it was in the foyer of a house in a neighborhood where every house was made the same and almost every house had a cool fan in it.
I also saw an older CEC (commander?) 36'' antique brass spinner with cane, an evergo emperor, and a very old ritz? from the 60s or so.

The Evergo Emperor didn't have the Mutant Blades on it, did it?

The Evergo Emperor didn't have the Mutant Blades on it, did it? No, This one did not have the 'mutant' blades on it, it had ordinary cane blades.

No, I meant it. There was an Evergo Emperor on Ebay a couple years back that had pointed cane blades, but they were "terraced" like this as well. Dan can vouch for me on this.

By the way, they actually had it turned on when I was in there the last time - it is in BAD shape... you can hear the bearings grinding and jostling around in the motor and it shakes like a go-go dancer. I would guess it was on medium since it was going about 140 but with the horrendous noises coming out of it, it may have well been on high. I can tell from the canopies of the other fans in the store that this is the only one of four remaining... leading me to believe that these were either really poorly made fans, or years of grease finally got the best of them.

The problem with SMCs is that (especially the later models) used bushing bearings instead of ball bearings. Noisier, and much more susceptible to dirt and wear.
