I have been wanting to switch out my parents ceiling fan with a fan that fit the room a little better. Well, all the bedrooms have the damn wall control that can control the light and the fan. A couple of years ago,I have had this same problem. I switched out the fans and the light switch works and not the fan switch. Coming out of the wall is Red, Black and White and the switch is Black, Red and Yellow It was first hooked up Wall: Switch: Black Black White Red Red Yellow
Now that way the fan switch worked and not the light. So I switched it around
Black Black Whtie Yellow Red Red
Now the light switch works and not the fan.
Any Ideas??!?! Thanks!

I'm guessing there are black, white and red wires going to the fan? If this is the case, the black wire should be the fan lead and the red one should be the light lead. The white lead is always neutral.

I talked to Stephen, the problem was the light was connected to the black wire in the switch housing, not the blue.

Yeah, that was the problem. Thanks so much DAN! Sorry, I did not have time to call you back. I had no business installing a ceiling fan in the time I had to do it and of course I attempted. Everything works great and I will give you a call later in the week. Thanks!
