Hey does anyone know when did Encon started to make ceiling fans and what year did they stop. I just wanted to know and what were the quality of these fans. Can anyone explain? Thanks.

Encon began making fans in the 70s. These were industrial like fans and were a little ugly compared to later fans, but I hear they were very excellent performers.
Around 1985, they came out with the more decorative spinner fan as added recently to Adams gallery. Quality was pretty good until about 1993, when the cheaply built units were offered. The new mounting system was rather hard to work with and the motors and blade holders were not all that strong. I remember seing the cheaper models at Scotty's hardware here between 1995-1999. The Odyssey builder style, Princess II spinner, and the Casanova hugger were some of the models as well as the popular 30" Petite 6 blade hugger. Also the Monarch which was not such a bad fan. Somewhere between the late 90s-2002, Encon sold the line to Westinghouse who now makes their own style of fans as well as the very same Encon models from the late 90s such as the Petite, Princess II, and Odyssey.
I hope this answers your question.

Encon sold to Angelo Brothers, which bought Westinghouse, I believe.

The earliest Encons were just relabeled Crompton Greaves, no? When did Encon start making their own?

And another question how good were the Crompton Greaves fans before they into Encons?

;D My neighbor has one of the Encon/Crompton Greaves Industrials on his porch. It has 3 blades, and is brown in color. He told me the story when I was younger; when the company he worked for closed, they gave him the fan. Also, there is one in an abandoned service station in my hometown. Someday I plan to obtain both LOL

Oh I plan to, I am not quite sure how to approach the situation but I figure that I will offer a nicer fan (in there eyes) perhaps with a light kit. To a non-collector, It may seem more desirable than a big, metal, noisy, fan, but I love industrials, and I think those look nice. ;D
