3-speed to variable speed- can it be done?

Is it possible to convert a 3-speed K55 Casablanca to variable speed? Anyone ever tried? I'd love to convert my 1995 Delta II if it can be done.

Can be done. Costs $120 (or somewhere in that area) for a new Slumber Quiet system. A real pain to replace, especially on Broadway Limiteds....

That seems a bit pricey. However, what if I had the Slumber Quiet parts from another fan that was converted to 3-speed? Are those parts reusable?

I'm surprised they still manufacture the Slumber Quiet system. You'd think people who had this type of control would want to switch it to 3-speed if the Slumber electronics fried up...

Where exactly did the name for the circuitry, "Slumber Quiet" come from?

The slumber quiet system is very unique, its ultra silent variable speed. But when it breaks, and it usually does, you have to replace every single peice of electronic reliated to the slumber system. ITs best to just convert it to three speed.

But one good thing when the slumber system does go out, you can use a regular wall mount variable speed control and the fan will be very quiet (due to the heat sink)

Instead of making it three speed or replacing the electronics again, you can put a rehostat in it, works just as well and no noise.

It is a nice control. How does it usually fail? I know I've heard of them heating up and damaging themselves, but is that the only way they break?

I like how things used to be made and used...for instance, dialling a phone with a rotary dial feels so much more satisfying than a touchtone phone does.

I would rather turn a fan on and off with pull chains, or reach up to the switch housing to turn the variable speed knob (although I do like InteliTouch, for its security mode).

I like Inteli Touch ALOT MORE than anyhing else.

The Slumber Quiet's parts usually just over heat. When I got my Broadway, the whole board was melted, and the motor was shot.

Rehostat boxes that were used in old fans, were what I was reffering to. Adrian Parado had some up for sale a few months ago, not sure if he still has them or not.

I guess I haven't looked hard enough. Usually the controls I find say "variable speed" but then say they have 3 or 4 "preset" speeds. Hmm.

This is unrelated, but does anyone have longer Zephyr-style brackets or a few fabric "tassel" pullchains?

I think I have some tassels somewhere off a CEC Georgian. I will try to find them.
