Hello, I'm newer and I want to ask: what do all of you think about the Casablanca Zephyr? How much is the standard price?
Reading through this forum, I found the thread that talks about recalls on Casablanca fans made from 81-93. Are the Zephyrs considered "unsafe" because of this? I want to find two for our living and dining rooms, but I'd like to know more first.
BTW, can the older InteliTouch system be upgraded to the newer system?
Thanks for the help!

Ebay is the best place to find a Zephyr, or you can contact Dan Neuman (owner of "toviewfans"). Ebay's standard pricefor them ranges between $60-$200.
I don't think it is 1980-1993, they would have found their problem by then, but then again, I may be wrong. Casablanca retailed a Hangtru recall kit (name?), for their manufactured fans from this time. I have yet to come across a Casabancafan without this kit on it. Once again, I can't promise any accuracy about this, Perrey or Dan would know more.
Yes, the W-11 system can be updated to the W-32 system. I have had to do it to a few fans myself. The kit to do this is $119.90. A bit prcey, but worth it, as the W-11 conrol is no longer available to public, to my knowledge. If anyone has any spare W-11s, let me know.

what is the difference between the kitted fan and no kit? is the one that is recalled, is there like a wierde 3/8" downrod and a 6 sided hex nut inside of the Hangar ball, or is the recal;led one, the one with the pin across it that also is Hang-tru? which is the recalled one, i own both..... i'll post a pic later I believe it is the 3/8" ones, but once again, not promising accuracy on this.

All Hang-Tru fans through 1993 have the defective canopy however you can obtain a bracket to insert that will allow you to use the old canopy safely.

My Casablanca Delta is one of the ones with the recalled canopy, so I simply called Casablanca, asked for the recall kit, and they sent me the bracket for free, direct from Pomona, CA. I'll take a free fan part any day ;D.

I had no idea they were free, I called for a bracket and they told me I had to get the whole canopy set, and that is $40!

Just say that you have some of the recalled fans, and they will ask for the model numbers. They typed the model # of my fan into their computer and said, "Yeah, you have a recalled fan." (something like that). Since it is a recall, they send the retrofit bracket free of charge.

Thanks for the info. I read about the recall somewhere in the forum, but I can't remember exactly what it said. How did the canopy "fail"; what was wrong with it? Could it be safely hung and used for a few weeks, without the recall bracket?
Dan, right now I'm pressing my parents about getting at least one fan (for our dining room). The most likely candidate would be that Polished Brass Zephyr on pg. 1 of ToViewFans. Could you reserve it for me, in case my plans work out? Thanks in advance.
If/when we replace our dining room fan, I'll put it up for sale or trade. It's a weathered brick (?) Hunter from the early to mid 90s. Not sure of the model; I can post pics sometime.
One more thing: are the motor housings on Casablancas attached to the motor (supporting it), or are they just enclosing it?. Basically, could the housing be removed while the fan is still hanging from the ceiling? I'll explain why after I get a few replies.
Thanks for the help.

The housing is attached to the motor, so it could be hung with out a housing.

Could it be safely hung and used for a few weeks, without the recall bracket? I would. It's rare that the fans with the defective bracket actually fall, but they have. It's a lot more likely to happen if the fan wobbles, and/or is on a vaulted ceiling. Dan, right now I'm pressing my parents about getting at least one fan (for our dining room). The most likely candidate would be that Polished Brass Zephyr on pg. 1 of ToViewFans. Could you reserve it for me, in case my plans work out? Thanks in advance. It's already reserved for someone else, but they have been taking an awfully long time. We'll see. Basically, could the housing be removed while the fan is still hanging from the ceiling? I'll explain why after I get a few replies. You would have to remove the fan from the ceiling to remove the housing, but once you had the housing off you could put the fan back together without it.

I would. It's rare that the fans with the defective bracket actually fall, but they have. It's a lot more likely to happen if the fan wobbles, and/or is on a vaulted ceiling. We just have standard 8-foot ceilings, so that might not be an immediate problem...but I'll see. It's already reserved for someone else, but they have been taking an awfully long time. We'll see. If that transaction goes through, the Antique Brass Zephyr would be okay, provided that one isn't already reserved. You would have to remove the fan from the ceiling to remove the housing, but once you had the housing off you could put the fan back together without it. Oh okay. In relation to this, are the Zephyr and Delta II motor housings the same size? And, is there really any difference between the top and bottom housings (meaning they are the same basic cast but one is clamped atop the motor)? Thanks for the help, Dan.
