A friction drive motor is basicly a tiny little induction motor mounted horizontally and it had a little metal cone shaped peice that drove against a rubber ring mounted onto a large hub. There, the blades would be connected. These fans could only be turned on at the high setting otherwise the tiny motor would burn out . If you want an exploded view of the motor, I have the user's manual for my old fan. BTW, my fan was a Sears version

Evergo (Under Toastmaster name) had a version of them. I've had three brown ones, and a white one. They were plentiful at the Reuse Center, Till they all got chucked in the free pile because they were CRAP! I've seen those fans, and even have the motor to one. Havent inspected it closely though . . . how do you know it's Evergo? They certainly are crap, but it appeared the brown ones had real nice blades 'pon dem.

anyone got a evergo Banana Fan? (on dan's group (is it his i wonder))? I have one, soon to have two . . . Ryan Sipka has one . . . some of them have spinner motors in there, others have a 28-pole Hunter Original-type motor in there . . . mine is variable speed, some are three speed. The variable speed ones have two pullchains, one you pull to make it faster, the other you pull to make it slower. Kick-ass design

pierce, it was a big mistake emerson & nutone did for avery short while . . . Are you *sure* those Nutones had those? I havent seen the photo for a while, but from what I recall, it looked just like a spinner motor . . . I'm going to try to get the catalog scans again so we can take another look.

The blender fans without the switch housings were also made in 36'' versions. I'll get a pic of the fan if anyone's interested.

Another thing, The blender fans were made with both plastic and fiber-glass blades. The fiber-glass blades were mainly made on emerson versions, and the shape of the flywheel, the one with the slight "bend" in it was only made wigth plastic blades and the one without the bend was made with the fiber-glass blades. My blender fan has the fiber-glass blades and the flywheel without the bend.

And you can tell the difference between the blades this way: The plastic blades have a woodgrain design on them, much like today's patio fans, and the bottom (where it connects to the bracket) is rounded. The fiberglass blades have no design and have "ridges" at the mount like old Westinghouse or banana fan blades.
The 36" blades I believe were also made with particle board with a woodgrain decal.

There are plenty of belnder fans with the flywheel with the "bend" with fiberglass blades, primarily the 3 blade no switch housing model. There were all different combinations. There was also some variation with the canopies.
