Did anyone have either of these stores in their mall or elsewhere? Service Merchandise bought out Wilson's in 1985 or so, and likewise the stores around here changed accordingly. Both of them sold fans; as a matter of fact, my first memory of a 6-blade fan was one for sale at Wilson's. Judging from the pictures that have been posted over the years, I think it was an Encon, as I remember it having square tip blades (unless Wilson's sold Fasco and they were making the World's Fair around 83-84.)
Service Merchandise sold King of Fans and Encon (the latter of which was relabeled "Easy Living" for a short while right after the bottom fell out of the quality). I'm sure they sold other brands as well, but I don't remember them.

I loved Service Merchandise. There was a huge store a few miles away from me, along with a huge fan display. I remember seeing a lot of "tiffany" style glass housings and decorative stuff like that. They also sold a lot of Encons. I was only about 4 or 5 when they stopped having the fan display. I loved the stores that would hang the tags on the pull chains. I could actually pull them as a kid by getting my dad to pick me up. Service Merchandise kept their tags hanging very low. Sears also had their tags on the pull chains also. On one occasion, I turned on a hugger that was severely off balance, and it made the entire fan display shake!
