No! the fan has no pull switches, only the remote and receiver.
The receiver has eight wires.
there is a pull chain for the light only.

Well, post some nice detailed pictures of the fan's motor, wiring, and the remote receiver. With that, we'd be far more able to give advice as to replacing the remote receiver or, as you said, rewiring it to be a pull-switch fan.
Here's the simple answer:
Figure out which wire is the load (full power, from the house supply) wire to the motor. Then, wire in an SP3T (standard 3-speed) pull-chain switch and a series of capacitors, and you're golden.
But...
You said the receiver has eight wires. With no pull-chain switch, or other switching system, I fail to see why it would need eight wires...unless it's designed to have more than three speeds, which some remote-control fans were. If it's designed to have more than three, it would [IMHO] be cool to keep it that way.
Again, post pics so we have an idea of what you're talking about.

8 wires seems normal for me. You have two power wires going in, two going out to the light, and that only leaves four for motor control. Reverse switches alone take 3-4 wires.
Where is the capacitor, on the board or in the housing?
Send us a picture of the fan. I doubt you can easily convert it to three speed, but we can try.
