hey all
sorry to bother about the Homeastar yet again, but I am curious and worried about this fan. The controls for the fan are very screwed up. Example: the reverse switch is the only one that regulates the speeds. All speeds work fine and everything, but the on-off arrows the control speed have NO effect. When I want to decrease speeds, I have to shut everything off first. Along with this, I ve noticed the motor getting quite hot after a few hours of operation....thats when the funny smells came in. They smelled like something baking, but not melting as there was no smoke. Any idea as to whats up with this fan or how i could fix it??? I really like it and dont want to get rid of it or have to replace it. Its down right now in pieces, everything seems fine with no char or burns and the funny smells seem to come from the red jacket over the motor where the wires enter. Lemme know any input on this as it is GREATLY appreciated!!

i wired it exactly like the diagram, only the wires through the back of the box were parallel to the on-off slide switch, rather than on top. could this affect anything?

From what I understand, the wiring goes to your box before it does the fan. Am I correct? [glow=red,2,300]IF[/glow] so, pigtail the two power wires together, and splice a single lead and use it for main power. THEN pig tail the two neutrals together and splice a single lead for that. So thats three wires in each nut. Got me so far? If so, then connect the wires as shown in the instructions and get back to us. Now, if it isn't like i said before, and the power goes to the fan first, list each wire going into your box, coming from the fan, coming from the control, etc, and tell me what the instructions tell you.
