Anyone finished doing their houses yet? I just got finished National Lampooning the folks' house hehe ;-) The lights on the mailbox (and the tree inside) change back and forth from white to multicolor! I figure with the eclectic bunch here that someone's bound to have some vintage Christmas lights in their collection. As you can see, in my windows I use the traditional "candoliers" - the five light ones (in the small windows) are hard to find in stores anymore, and the eight light candoliers (big windows) haven't been made in years - they're virtually impossible to find except on Ebay. I also have a lot of the 80's lights with the little plastic reflectors on them, but I didn't use them this year. I did pick up a few LED's however - had to get something modern lol. I used to have some really old lights, but the wiring was frayed and the old bulbs get WICKED hot, so I got rid of them. I absolutely REFUSE to use "net lights", "icicle lights", "swag lights", etc. on my house. You have to buy a ton of the things at 3 or 4 times the price of a regular set, and I consider it "cheating" - the end result doesn't even look that good... it kind of has a "fake" look to it! My 50 cents... go ahead and flame away ;-)

Wow its Beautiful JW but its still a bit early. We never put any decorations before the first day of December in my house. Yeah I have seen that movie National Christmas Lampoon Vacation (1989) EACH Christmas! Its a classical, very Funny (with Chevy Chase) We are going to install our lights this weekend. We put mostely normal multicolor C9 7 Watt lights around the house and in the scrubs we also have a few C7 5 Watt and we use all white mini-lights in the couronne. Maby this year we will try something different like have all sets of the same color instead of having them all mixed multicolor or put them differently. But I love Christmas Decorations especially lights! ;D Inside the house we dress a REAL Natrual(not faked made of plastic) Christmas tree. Belive it or not we still put the good'ol C7 5 Watt frosted lights in our tree, mixed with minis ones. I have alwayse prefered the C7 5Watt frosted ones to put in the tree instead of the minis ones only. Back in the 1950-1980s that what they put because the minis were not there yet. Nice lights Jeremy very 80s. But your green C9 7 Watt at the bottom pic doen't looks like the usual frosted that we know. I have never seen that kind of frosted on christmas lights bulbs. (the middle pic is the usual one) Hey JW, Jeremy, Adam and Mike that live in Texas and Florida, its must be weird to put all those beautiful christmas lights and not even having snow. What kind of weather do you have in Texas at this time of the year? Here in Montréal we had our First snowfall of the season last week. RIGHT NOW its about 3 dergees Celcius and its raining so the snow is melting. The streets are like slosh. YARK!

We don't usually do much, our Christmas tree is from '94, along with the 2 sets of lights. I need to find the dead bulb in the circuit. I hate how when one goes out, it all goes out. Honestly, it should be wired in parallel, a lot easier to find the missing bulb.

I like Christmas lights and these look great.
JW, I though I saw those Candoliers in the store sales ads. Maybe it was just 3 light ones. I had bought some 1 light ones and they were pretty crudely made so I threw them out. I have some nice white and brass ones though with sensors.
We put multicolored pattern lights on the tree and C9 multicoloreds on the porch.
I used to have some of those with the flowers that go over them. I thought they were from the 70s. I threw mine out, because they didn't work well and were old.
I like the bells and the swirl bulbs, very cool.

They do have them. They are LED, I think. They are programmed to act like a candle, making the flickering. It's like the new ceiling fan Casablanca made, with the stacks of candles. The "Candolier": I have a question. Since these are so old, I would think that the bulbs aren't made anymore. What happens if one blows out? Do you just rig a jumper through the two points? Do they have replacements on eBay?

I need to find the dead bulb in the circuit. I hate how when one goes out, it all goes out. Honestly, it should be wired in parallel, a lot easier to find the missing bulb. 99 percent of the "midget" light sets made since the 80s have a shunting device in them. If one bulb goes out, the rest of them stay lit. If you have a whole section of a string out, check to see that the bulbs are in tight, and none are missing or broken. Loose, missing, or broken bulbs will cause an entire segment to fail. If the entire string is gone, check the plug for two tiny fuses. If they're blown, the set will not light. Most candoliers made since the 60s use C7 bulbs, available anywhere. Some of the oldest eight-light versions use C6 bulbs, and... well, if one of those goes out, you're basically screwed unless you can find some C6 bulbs on Ebay. The three-light candoliers are still readily available pretty much anywhere. Good luck finding any with more than three, though, except on Ebay. The last place I saw new five-light models for sale was Lowe's about 5-10 years ago.

I saw a 5 light candolier on my way to school today. Some of the houses along Broad St. (the main road running through east Meriden) are very old.
