Those awesome Lakewood 9" High Velocity fans are gone from my Wal Mart!!! Replaced now by POS Mainstays, made out to be as similar as possible, but having a cheap single pole motor rather than the very powerful 2 pole motor the Lakewood had. I'd say they were the best Walmart had to offer, next to the USA Patton fan's they had years ago. It seems a lot of their fans now (ceiling and desk) are focused more on aesthetics than ever, subtracting performance. Walmart does have, however a cool DC fan with a variable speed control. (dial is much like a volume dial) The little DC box fan puts out generous wind for its size, for about $13 and includes the adaptor. It can also be battery powered and is available without the adaptor for $5. They're also selling Vornado's now($80), and that's a definite plus. Any opinions or comments?

I have one. It blows a lot of air for it's size. I've always wanted a Vornado. I remember a long time ago there was a oscillating Vornado 12" desk fan. It had 5 blades and a mesh grille. That's the one I wanted.
