GM is one of the best. I have a 1988 Chevy Celebrity that I bought in 1998 for $200, My first car, Never once got the oil changed, Tuneup Etc.. And is still barly running out of all the abuse and miles I put that car through. Never anything major broke. Everybody is amazed that the car is still running. It makes a knocking noise, which is been doing for that past year and a half (Not a rod) the oil leeks and the motor looks very bad, and dirty, and she is still kicking. I have To give General Motors credit, At lease from my experience..........
Yes I got a great laugh off that one........

My experence with GM has been Okay, the worst has been Ford. Allthough GM motors are good (except for the Quad 4), their Transmissions with the FWD V6 engines are junk. Not to mention the piston knock and valve noise. Good luck changing a CV halfshaft in a GM, the idiot engineers decided to attach them in a way that you'd have to remove the transmission to change it. GM also has exhaust systems that love to fall apart. And the interiors, an ergonomic disaster. By far, the worst dashboard layout ever. Some dont even have cupholders! Not to mention those horrible door mounted seatbelts that dont even touch you when you are waring them. Interiors and bodies that fall apart too. Dont mean to rant, but thats my experience. Personally, I like the Celeberty because its soo boxy.

Yes and no, I own two Chevy Celebritys, the old hunk I bought in 1998, is a v4 and one that I bought a year ago is a v6, It's sitting in the driveway waiting for me to affort to fix it. Long story, It has a problem with the gas or vacuum system. I was driving down the highway, and the car acted like it wanted to stall out, like it was running out of gas, I made it to a gas station and put gas in it and still did the same thing. I opened the hood and saw that there is a small vacuum hose not attached to anything. I put duct tape over it and the car acted a little better. It sat at a friends house and he has a mechanic, and they said it's the fuel pump. Well they replaced the fuel pump and the car still does the same thing. Now I owe my friend $200 for a unfixed car. Problem signs. The car will start after a bunch of cranks, once it is started it will idol, but if I push the gas the car will stall. I can't rev the engine without it stalling out. Does anyone know with this problem is? I'm thinking either something fell out of the car that the vacuum system hose goes to. Or there is a problem between the gas tank and motor. I think the car has muddy gas in it from setting for ever. I put $5 bucks of gas in the car before towing it back to my house, after my friend wanted the car out of there after sitting for about 9 months. It started to run a little better after putting fresh gas in it over top of dirty gas. I run the engine every two weeks to keep it from rotting and the fluids flowing. Now the car barly wants to stay started on while idoling. Maybe I should drane the old gas out and put fresh gas in, But I think it has a problem other than that...
Yes GM motors are one if the best from what I heard and Experence. I'm not a mechanic or now alot about engines. I know to put oil, gas, power stearing and transmission fluied, change the vavle cover gasket, alternator and most minor things. As far as going into the engine, never done that.. The interior, dash board Etc. it's not the greatest. Matthew, you're correct..... I like Toyota's their engines are die hards. My mother owned a 1984 pickup 1985 - 1998 and was still running in 98 when she sold it but it rusted to hell. Now she has a 1995 Toyota 4 Runner that she bought in 1996.... The problem with early Toyota's, up to the mid 1980's are the body's, as they would rust to hell after a few years.....Yes I agree, Fords are junk..........Adam

Does anyone know with this problem is? Sounds like a MAP (Manifold absoulte Pressure) sensor. Check it and see if there is a vaccum line missing. My Reliant would do the same. Those MAP sensors are expensive ($80.00!), but you can pick one up at the junkyard for pocket change. Also, I assume your "V4" is actually an inline four, seeing how there is no such thing as a V4 (notice how the engine isn't in a "V" shape). So you must have the old "Iron Duke" 2.5L motor. If so, check the vaccum lines going to the throttle body. There should be a diagram on the underside of the hood. Allthough im pretty sure its the MAP sensor. Toyotas last forever, but they are a pain in the a$$ to work on. I had to replace the distributor in a 1990 Corolla and it was a nightmare. I'll keep my Chryslers.

I happen to like most GM besides Ford, find them to be reliable cars, but I've long since learned my lesson about giving rides to people heavy enough to destroy things. If you weigh more than the car, you shouldnt be in it.

Might be called 4 or 6 cylinder, As for the names, I don't know to much about them. (v4, 4 Cylinder) and (v6, 6 Cylinder) I thought means the same thing. All I know that one is a 4 (Something) and the other is a 6 (Something) the one I bought in 1998 that is still running is a 4, and the one that has vacuum problems is a 6 and has much more horse power then the other. I wonder how much a mechanic would charge to put that part it if the problem is what you said above?

Forget the mechanic! Do it yourself! All you need is a screwdriver (or a wrench, depends on what GM uses). Go to a junkyard and pick one up. Install it and it should run.

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus SE, and it's NOTHING BUT TROUBLE...Well, not since I recently had it fixed. It had some horrible gas mileage within the past year, but that's all fixed. That will be my last Ford, however.

I have a 2002 Taurus SE w/ 38,000 miles, and its been a good car so far. It's not fast at all, but it gets the job done. I'll just have to wait and see how it is in a few years. I'll just have to keep fresh fluids in that 3.0 all the time.
