I recently installed a Hunter Original from the 70s that does not have a reverse switch. That got me thinking... what is the reverse mechanism for Hunters of that era? Is it a mechanical? Electrical? Is there a way to "mod" this fan so that it spins in reverse?
By the way, I don't have it in me to actually perform the modification (if one exists). I'm just curious.
Thanks! Joseph

Purchase some of the "Reverse-Aire" brackets that appear on Ebay from time to time. You lock them in the standard position (right side of the blade toward the floor, if looking straight at the motor from the end of a blade) to push air down, and lock them into the reverse position (left side of the blade toward the floor) to push air up.
Otherwise, I don't believe it's possible to electrically reverse that particular fan.

Hunter originals weren't electrically reversible until 1985. Before then, they were mechanically reversible. From the teens to 1980, they used the adaptiare system, which involved a hub that had a lever on it, which would reverse the blades when you turned it. The adaptaire syatem was discontinued im 1980, and replaced with the reversaire system, which JW already described.

Thanks JW and Andrew G for this information. I'll keep an eye out for the reversaire brackets on eBay.

Send us a picture of the fan. It's possible it may already have a mechanical reverse feature . . . but the majority of these fans are not electrically reversible.
