Was asked to look at a ceiling fan making noise.
Found fan running, making a chirpping noise. Seemed like chirpping noise not motor/fan blade related. Shut off wall switch. Dropped ceiling mount canopy and found black rectangular plastic box with wires coming out of both sides. Wires on one side were connected to the line side hot and neutral, wires on other side were connected to fan motor fan light, and fan motor/light neutrals. This box was labeled: Smart Remote Solid State Ceiling Fan Remote Controller RL-103 Turned wall switch on, chirpping noises coming from this black plastic module, fan and light operated. Found opening in this Remote Controller that gave access to a small two position switch labeled just SW1.
The handheld remote does not seem to work, even with new (V battery installed. Opened battery compartment revealed a DIP switch equipped with four tiny switches. Switch 3 was in ON position. All others in OFF position.
Can anyone help with what's causing this constant "chirpping" sound
The appears to be a tiny speaker inside the fan mounted Remote Controller and this is what is producing the chirpping sounds. But I don't know why.
Label on fan reads: SMC Shell Electric Mfg (Holdings) Co., Ltd April 2002 Model # hard to read: QJ44V or OJ44V
Found SMC website and this fan looks similar to the current model OR44VSA
Any help, suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you remove the Smart Remote box and wire the fan without it?

No, not really. This fan apparently came from the manufacturer to be handheld remote controlled only.
There are no pull chains or switches on the fan.
Only a top of the motor forward/reverse switch.
However, I was wondering if the handheld remote transmitter and the fan mounted remote receiver could both be removed and replaced with a Hunter Universal Fan & Light Control 27185 kit; which has a new handheld remote transmitter and a fan mounted remote receiver.
Or I see they have wall switch transmitter and the same fan mounted remote receiver to use Hunter 27186.
Does anyone know if either of these two items might work. I know its not a Hunter fan, but I believe these items are marketed for use on other brands as well.

Try wiring the fan direct without the SMC remote thing, and see. If the fan comes on full speed, and the lights come on full bright, then you can wire any other remote kit in it's place and should be fine.
