I am annoyed with every single vintage fan I own right now. I finally get some truely top-quality ceiling fans up in my house in a few of the rooms, and they are all screwing up. My Casablanca Four Seasons (although it is badged Delta II because the previous owner likely had repair work done to it) that is hung in my living room and has been running on high 24/7 all summer decided that it is going to make all kinds of noise. It makes this loud "chirp" with each rotation of the blades, very loud. Two days ago it did it on high, then stopped, now it does it on all speeds and when I spin it by hand. Nothing lose in motor, nothing rubbing, everything tight. Bearings shot? I just put this damn thing up like 6 months ago and do not want to have to change a fan out there AGAIN.
My Lasko in the abthroom which has been faithful for years now is clikcing non-stop and I can't make it go away. The NIB Verandah in my bedroom makes a "scraping" noise only on medium and low speeds (i have a three speed wall controller on it). High its quiet. Again, I have no idea why, everything is fine with it in terms of the obvious causes that come to mind.
My dining room Charleston still makes the very loud "rattleing" noise from the flywheel on high and medium speeds that I have been dealing with forever now.
And I jsut installed a Dayton/Lasko ornate in a friends house because they have a modern/retro loft in Philly and this fan just worked in there, and that one hums and buzzes non-stop all speeds when it was silent for the first week it was up.
Here is the kicker that really pisses me off and makes this post turn really long...I have a cheapo hunk of crap Callera hugger in my kitchen I put up temporarily until I could find something nicer, that has run 24/7 for 6-7 months on high, and is totally freakin' silent. Its second hand and at least 12 years old and still performs great, and retailed for $29 new at Caldor. I dont get it!
And over the winter I installed 6 ceiling fans at my uncles house, he had none when he moved in. He refused to let me put up one single vinatge fan, he only wanted new because he doesn't trust old appliances. So I obliged since he pays very-top dollar to install them (roughly 75 per fan!). I put up a HB Huntington III, A Grayton, 3 Low Profile Hunter 42inchers, and a Commercial Electric builder fan. (He picked them all out I just installed.) All of them have run nearly all day every day since I put them up, all those cheap hunks of crap are quiet, wobble-free, and blow great air. My Fascos, Casablancas, NuTones? All noisy, wobbling, and contantly requiring something to keep them up and running. What am I doing wrong? All my fans were either NIB or damn close to it. None of these fans were trash or resale store finds. They are installed perfectly to secure boxes, wired to appropriate switches, and they still click, blang, moan, or otherwise wobble. Im getting frustrated here people! HELP! I need quiet fans! I will be run out of the house if these dont get quiet soon! My family expects quiet fans as we use them all year long, and I am seriosuly ready to just start over and buy some "cheap" fans in order to have ones that I can just turn on and forget about! HELP!
