Im considering putting back up my spartan-fasco white four blade 52 inch fan, question is the reason why it was takin down was because it made some kind of slight scratching sound when it was on and started to get pretty irritating, but i diddnt want to throw it out because i still liked how it looked and i knew it still had some life left in it. i want to put it back up but now that i have it down it sounds like something is shaking around loose inside the motor and i belive that is what caused the scratching sound. i cant figure out at all how to safely open up the motor housing. ive been told its an imported spinner motor? i know some of you have seen this fan but ill post a pic again from a while ago when i still used it, just to show you all what ive got to work with, any help would be great!

Unscrew the screws in the motor housing and see if there are any loose wires or anything rubbing the motor.
The black motor and the white motor housing should be two different things, at least fans that I opened are. So you should be safe opening the housing. I wouldn't open the motor itself unless you can't find anything else wrong.
With the motor housing removed you can spin the motor by hand and see if it still makes the scraping noise.

FanMan has some good points. You need to determine if something is getting in the way, or if the bearings need oiling. If it's the latter I'll send you oiling instructions.

yeah i have had just the housing off, and i did spin the motor, but i still herd the scraping noise comming from inside the motor itself, sounded like something was loose inside it when i would shake it around a bit. i have oiled the bearings and it spins freely. if the motor is too difficult to open up ill see if it still makes the noise by just connecting it. i noticed it only made the sound sometimes.

The motor can be opened, you remove all screws and then pry it HARD on the edge at the side.

Just use caution, you should be fine. Hard to do too much damage.

does that rod that runs down the center have to do anything with opening the motor too?

No, leave that alone. Deal strictly with the outsides of the casing.
