Hello
My grandparents have an SMC antique brass fan in their living room. Its a 4 blade model with 3 light kit (came with fan and both purchased from WAL-MART long ago. Will replacing the capacitor cure the fan's problem? Its been used heavily in its life.

Is this fan a 52'' with a brown motor? Most of the brown 52'' motors used the same capacitor value.

the electrician who looked at the fan (good ol' boy who's a simpleton) threw away the capacitor Then he should buy you a new fan. You need to replace the capacitor with one of the same value. Most of the newer SMCs I've found used a 7+2.5 3 wire capacitor.
