Hello everyone, I have somewhat been around, but never have become a member to this website for some strange odd reason. Well, I need help.... I have a set of blades that have sat outside for years (a friend gave them to me and I have the hole fan too if anyone was wondering) and the blade arms are covered in rust. Well, I have tried soaking them overnight in WD-40, I have scrubbed and scrubbed trying to get the rust off, I have tried sanding all the rust off and around the screws, and going to try to soak the arms again. For some reason I can't get the screws out of there. I know that there must be a way to get them out. If anyone has any advice, that WOULD BE GREAT! Thanks , Stephen

There is a method for loosening stuck screws that I read in the Family Handyman. Before attempting it, however, I'd put the blade arms on a surface that won't scratch them (although since they're rusted, that may or may not matter...).
Insert a screwdriver into one screw's head. Holding the screwdriver vertical with one hand, take a hammer or mallet in the other and pound once on the end of the screwdriver's handle. Then see if you can unscrew the screw. The jarring motion breaks the bond between the rusted blade iron and screw. Repeat on the other screws or as necessary. This is a helpful tip in carpentry, but I think you might want to try it out.
What make is the fan? Hunter, Casablanca, etc...?
And welcome to the forum, Stephen!

They are, well were assembeld. That was the problem....but I tried Alex K method and it worked. It took a lot of work to get them out and a lot of hammering, BUT IT WORKED. It is a Fasco Parlour fan. Thanks Alex for the helpful method.

I'm glad to see it worked for you. Good luck with the rest of the fan!
