Is the fan stamped with '88, or did you ask Robert? I'm surprised it's that late, I always thought those were earlier.

I don't believe it's stamped with 88'. It might have been as early as 85, around that year most fans were being made less chunkeir. It's a pretty heavy fan..

Bell canopies were discontinued in most brands by the late 80s. I know Moss made fans with that "less chunkier" motor as early as '82.
Those are very heavy, they are good fans.

Since we're on the topic of pre-1986 moss five bladers, I'll share. This one is mine, my grandmom gave me this NIB. It was manufactured in 1985 and bought from JCPenny on 9/14/86. This one is the same fan, but not a close-mount. Note the five blades with a bell canopy...

I had one of these, with stencil blades. I dont know about yours, but mine had the ligher "CEC" style motor, instead of the heavy cast "Ritz" style motor . . . from what I understand Moss originated both designs as they switched factories over the years.
I remember these from the JCPenney catalog.

I saw a white version of that antique brass one in a thrift shop a few months ago, they just went out of business. It was quite heavy and I was going to get it, but decided not to. Now that I look back I should have bought it, but I also don't care for white fans, unless they are spinners..
