no there is no tag on it and no marks for a tag and it has 2 speeds. Medium, Fast, and Off (in that order). It only has 2 wires coming out of the top. Black and White.

Ok, is there an off position between the two speeds? i.e. Off, low (medium), off, high?

Oh thanks for the pics Dan! Its definitely a Home made customized Hunter Original with some SMC parts on it. Probably that this Original had some damaged/rusted pates or missing parts so the person tried to restored it with what he already had: a 80s SMC.
Canopy and switch housing are SMC Motor/housing and bottom plate are Hunter Original Blades and brackets I am not sure but it would be probably more from a SMC than Hunter. But it looks like form a other fan again. The brackets looks like from a Casablanca maybe.
Did you tried it? Still looks like a nice fan, the brown SMC canopy will match the brown housing and the brass SMC switch housing with the brass bottom plate. I like it since I like both SMC and Hunters. I wounder if that SMC canopy will fit on the hanger of the original?

That fan is NOT a Hunter Original. Everyone should have been able to tell that from the very first picture -- the color of the brown is all wrong. Hunters is MUCH lighter, less glossy, etc.
Come on, folks...

Notice the fact that the bottom plate attaches with only 4 screws, that is only seen on R&M originals. Also, in the teens and 20s, Hunter loaned their designs to Diehl, Western Electric, and perhaps others (notice different finishes, switch housing, rotor, etc.). This could've also happened with SMC, but that's just a theory.

If it is an Original, then it's been modified with SMC parts. It could have just as easily been modified with paint.
If it is an Original, it is a 70s model with the separate oil cup.
Who's to say that other companies couldnt have made an Original copy with a 4 screw bottom plate?
I'll repeat myself, the idea of an American made fan being traded with a Hong Kong company is unlikely to me.
My vote is for, 70s Original modified with SMC parts. But it could also be a really interesting Original copy. I'd have to see it in person to know for sure.

Looks to be a Original knockoff by SMC, Laguna/Hunter Original...

It COULD have been made by SMC, I kind of doubt it, since they were making spinner motors before anyone else.
