We know about Brian's Originals, but who here has "modified" a fan, or put one together from different parts, in an attempt to make a better fan (either in looks, air movement, or both)? Did it work as planned? Also, would it look "normal" to the untrained eye?
A real example can be found on the Yahoo group, where someone took the motor, flywheel, and blades of a new Casablanca Victorian and put them in a 20th Century Limited motor housing with its light kit.
Hypothetically, we could come up with some interesting concoctions by maybe sticking a K55 in one of those plastic Emerson-like Toastmasters, or putting Gossamer Wind blades on a Crompton Greaves High Breeze motor, etc.

I've put a smaller switch housing on a fan a few times, or a different switch housing cap. I generally try to keep my fans original. I'm sure I have enough parts here to make a few fans, I dont know how they look.
Also, I used to take spinner fans and move the capacitor to the top of the motor, adding a lower canopy. One time, I was supposed to put two industrial fans in a church, I had one Carroway and nothing else that looked like it. I had an SMC spinner with a glass motor, and the spinner motor inside the glass looked quite a bit like the Carroway motor, so I removed the glass, lights, and switch housing, moved the capacitor to the top of the motor, and gave it a bell canopy. Aside from having 4 wood blades it looked just like the Carroway. The fans are still in that church.
I also had the idea to put a K55 inside the Toastmaster housing, however I havent had a K55 I wanted to sacrifice yet. I would probably give it a "Fasco mount" like the plastic Emerson.
And any fan that I really like that doesnt have a bell canopy, soon, does.

I've also modified a fan or two. My evergo, the one that was severely damaged by water, I really liked that fan. So I happened to have another same but different evergo motor. I took that motor, painted it brown to match all of the intact parts from the ruined fan, put the parts on the good motor, and now I have a working fan again.
I've also thought about putting an older bigger metal emerson switch housing, levitron switch, and blender canopy on my '78 blender fan to make it look like an older one.

I've put a metal emerson flywheel and blades on a gear motor before. Hey Brian, you should try that with them 8' blades of yours.

the person who raped the 20th century limited of its original dignity by making it look absloutely absurd with 5-blades :(sho >:(uld be whipped and have any other nice fans removed from his possesion before they fall victim to his slaughter... Wait a minute 'Dre, werent you attempting to buy the original blade brackets off that 'raped' 20th Century? Wouldnt you want to *encourage* his new design so he wouldnt be inclined to put the old brackets back on? All hail the 5 blade 20th Century, which looks like something the fan companies would put out today. It's not like I could afford it either way. But from what I understand he's got a pretty nice assembly of fans. So if you decide to raid and pillage his house, I'll be right behind you with a big sack for looting.
