Input on converting k63 variable-speed to fixed speed

Hi, 

I have an unknown Casablanca model with a K63 motor and a variable speed control. I would like to get rid of the humming inherent to the variable speed control. It's like sitting under a very polite big zapper. I have latched onto the idea that converting to fixed speed might accomplish this. (You may correct me if I'm wrong on this point and save us all some time.)

My fan is wired exactly like this image.

I was attempting to implement something like this, which I admit I got from a nice young fellow on YouTube. Can I adapt this for my motor wiring? 



The major changes in the parts, aside from the capacitors, are a single brown lead from the k55 motor vs the brown AND blue from the k63, and the use of 6-prong vs 3-prong reverse selector switches.

Can I just put the 10u capacitor in place of the k63 start capacitor and wire everything between house black and cap red the same as the k55 diagram?

Is there some fundamental difference between the motors that I'm overlooking?

Assuming we've all arrived here at the bottom of my post still feeling very normal about what I'm asking, I'd also be interested to know if these are reasonable capacitor values for the k63. At full speed I can very much believe that these things started out as washing machine motors.

Anyway, I admit I'm trying to hack this up but I don't want to do anything obviously stupid (to someone who knows better), and I'm personally having a hard time figuring out how to compare the two motors. If you're willing to humor me I'd appreciate any help i can get.

You are overthinking this.

Can you use a wall control?

Do you have a picture of the fan?

Do not change the capacitor in the K63 motor to a higher value you will toast it.

I assure you I'm underthinking it but point taken. 

If I'm doing anything with this fan, it's just going to involve the existing connection at the ceiling. There's no existing wall control.

Looks like a Four Seasons. I like these. If you decide you want to sell it let me know.

I wanted to see if it had the metal flywheel or rubber. Hard to tell from these pictures but it looks like rubber. If it has the metal, you wont be able to quiet it down much.

You want to find a speed control that works for the fan (it can be two capacitors and a pullchain) and wire it in place of the existing variable speed box (and pullchain if necessary). The problem is going to be, will it fit in the switch housing. Because if not, you'll have to run additional wires up the stationary shaft, and sometimes there isnt any more room.

A wall control is definitely the easiest solution.

I've also used smart controls and wired them inside the motor housing, then you dont need to have access to them because you can control it from your phone.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep digging. I think you're right that any additional caps or board circuits would probably need to go upstairs in the motor housing; there's nothing else up there except the old capacitor and the wiring, so slightly more room than the switch housing.

It is a pretty fan, if I decide to replace it I'll give you a shout. This is a fairly old room extension, so I'm trying very hard to stick with not fixing what isn't broken. (Which may wind up including this fan TBH).

There's nothing preventing me, it's just more than I want to commit to doing and there's not really any existing work I can leverage.

It's going to be a lot easier than modifying the fan.

The easiest option is replacing the fan.
