Hunter (23865) - was locked up and couldn't spin blades with hand. This happened one evening after it was working fine. Took the fan down and apart to inspect. It had no oil and the shaft and bearings had gunk on them. Cleaned everything with WD 40 until it was shinny new. No obvious signs of wear on shaft or bearings. Re-assembled and placed oil in reservoir. Without power the fan spins freely and effortlessly. Tested the 2 capacitors and they both test good. (4.5 & 4.5/7.5) Adding power to the fan, it struggles to spin the motor, even without the blades attached. (it's on my work bench) The motor shows no signs of overheating or damage. It makes a little noise on startup like it's struggling and does not reach high speed. Any ideas?
I have 5 of these fans. All were having issues (running slow, noisy, only one speed). None had bad capacitors but all needed cleaning (shaft & bearings) Took down and cleaned all 5 of them. 3 are working great (like new). Two are having this slow spinning issue, won't reach speed. Again, motors show no signs of overheating, motor spins freely and easily without power, caps all good, bearings and shaft good, oil in reservoir...

1. Pictures may help
2. When testing them, are you testing them hanging, or on the bench? Because they only work properly when hanging

Yes, they were re-hung after bench testing with the same slow results. Glad to post a picture, what do you want to see? I'm currently swapping parts between a good working unit and the slow running unit to eliminate things. I'll follow up with results.

I discovered a couple of things. On one of the fans (A), when I cleaned it up I re-installed the bearing upside down by mistake. This was causing the slow speed. Unfortunately that bearing now needs replacing... The other slow unit (B), I swapped the switch and bearing with a working unit (C). The slowness problem didn't appear in unit (C), it continues to run great with unit (B) parts. Unit (B) now runs fast but is really noisy on high speed. It has no medium speed. Since I'm ordering parts, I'll going to get new bearings and switch for unit (B). Once installed I'll post my results. Hopefully that will fix the issue...
AND thanks for replying... the pic request made me continue troubleshooting and find the flipped bearing.

Yes the stack has to be in the same order, and right side up. Some of the parts look the same on both sides but they are not.

This could be the reason my hunter spins down so fast , bearing pieces might be flipped. Do you have a pic of the bearing stack? The only thing I have left to try flipping are the washers.
