Dear Fans experts, I just installed our never out-of-original box but ~20 yr old Minka-Aire space saver fan (I don't have the model # handy; the current model is here www.minkagroup.net/f510l-wh.html). Unlike the current model which comes with its own wall switch to control fan and light separately, this one has a remote and a remote receiver (a plastic box that connects to line power and to the motor). The wiring, etc looked straightforward, had control of circuit breaker for installation and checking function. I But the fan doesn't work (neither light nor fan). The wall switch controlling the power worked on the fan that i removed. I thought maybe i had to power-up the remote to activate the fan or light on, but that doesn't help (although the remote lights-up when a button is pushed). Even though it was never previously opened, is it possible for one of the components to have gone bad simply sitting in the box all those years? I realize i could simply buy the new one but on principle at least i want to try to figure this out. Do you think Minka-Aire would supply replacement components? Or should i suspect another issue (e.g. the new load impaired the wall switch - i didn't have a meter handy to check power in). Thanks in advance for your expert advice!

Some remotes do need to be learned or programmed before use, the manual should say.
I would definitely try calling Minka.

Thanks for the prompt input, Obi-Wan. The manual does not specify beyond assuring that the 4-pin code on the transmitter and remote are set to the same combination (they were). I tried two different pairs of combination. I see for the newer models with remotes, there is an order for setting this up. This manual does not specify more detail, but I will call Minka when they are next open to hear what they suggest. Thx again.

FYI, I did take the fan down and tested it by wiring directly to a switched extension cord. The fan works but only if the receiver part is bypassed and then there is no control of fan speed or the light. When all is connected there is power on the fan side of the receiver unit. And, again, i tried several combinations of dip switch codes, nothing works (for some reason the forum won't let me attach the picture but the receiver says 7067FM-05(6+5) on the side if that means anything to someone). I opened the receiver unit and it looks intact (circuit board) as far as the eye can see (not reason why it would be burned out it was never used). With the unit disconnected i tested continuity across the negative white wires (yes continuity) and the positive black (no continuity, but i am not sure if there is supposed to be). But nothing is loose. I have contacted MinkaAire although I can only be hopeful that they will be willing to help. In the meantime, any suggestions are welcome. Presumably with an electrician's help might we be able to put in a wall controller and bypass the receiver, but they would need to connect a "blue" wire for the light from the wall switch up to the outlet box?
