I am curious about blade size selection. I am settled on wanting: Casablanca, 4 blades. I already have a Victorian Ceiling Fan with 50" span in my office. This is a great fan and so I just want to get another essentially but this second fan would be placed in a much smaller room. That room's smallest dimension is 8 feet 9 inches wide. So I'm wondering if I get a 50" fan, but decided later to get shorter blades to swap out, will the shorter blades work better in a smaller room? I am looking at ebay for Casablanca fans: Victorian (if you recommend that with smaller blades), Delta, Lady Delta. There is a 36" Lady Delta right now but not in the finish I want ideally. Basically, what is functionally best in a small room: a fan original designed for smaller blades, or a fan I adapt with smaller blades? Plus, this question is based on my assumption that a 50" fan is too big for the small bedroom and wont make the air flow correctly. Is that assumption correct?

What size is the small room?

14'6" x 8'9" with a corner of that taken up by a closet.
I'm thinking right now that I should have a 42" fan. Can I take a Casablanca fan and put these shorter blades on it? Or am I better off getting a fan designed for 42" blades? I hesitate to go with another brand because last time I did that the fan was bad. Hard to pick something off of ebay without knowing much. My Casablanca Victorian is such good quality which is why I think if I go with Casablanca, I wont be disappointed.

The only downside to a 52" fan will be that it will LOOK big. It wont hurt performance.
You can get a Casablanca and put smaller blades on it.
