I have several original hunters in my house. I am having a problem with one that has been gone through and purchased on E-bay. The capacitor that has been used is a 5 wire with some wires terminated and two put together, so actually only using 3 wires . The fan does work with this configuration but the problem is that it does not fit all the way into the switch housing, not allowing the bottom plate to be put on for a light kit. As I understand it the original capacitor was round and fit well into the housing but is not available. I thought about the possibility of moving wires and mounting on top of the motor housing but not sure if this is possible or a good idea. Thought someone here may have a wiring diagram and some knowlege on how to work around the problem. Possible Capacitor part number etc This fan is a brass Hunter/ Robins Myers MDL 22274 Amp 2.5 serial 1880 No Reverse Any help would be appreciated Ben Russell

That fan would not have come with a capacitor. Someone must have added it?

Any idea then how the wiring should actually go. I am trying to get it setup right. It makes sense that it might have not had a capacitor as the one that was in it was so crammed in that it could not have the bottom cap screwed on. Any help appreciated. Ben

Without the capacitor you would only have two speeds. Those are two speed from the factory. How many speeds does it have?
