I have three Casablanca Panamas without the K55 motors built post 1996 that I use quite a bit. I would like to have at least one or two spare Panama or Delta IIs should I ever have problems with my fans.
Questions:
How hard would it be to swap out these newer motors for an earlier K55 motor if it's even possible?
What is the difference between the Panama K55 motor and the Delta II K55 motors?
I would like to have at least one spare Panama or Delta II should I ever have problems with one of my fans or decide to install one elsewhere. Is this a reasonable route to take or is my thinking wrong?

Casablanca had different manufacturers for motors but otherwise they are basically the same. Some examples are the Emerson K55, Astrosyn K55 and Samsung K55. The last 2 aren't as good but still do the job. The XLP motors are also pretty decent. Only difference between the Delta and Panama is the control system used. The Deltas were 3 speed pullchain only and Panamas could be Intelli Touch, Comfort Touch and 3/4 speed pullchain. The post 96 XLP fans are the same basically. Motor swapping is possible as far as I am aware. I have seen people but XLP motors in K55 fans so the reverse should be doable. It would be a rather lengthy process if you are unexperienced. You have to pound out the switch housing and do many other things. It probably wouldn't be worth it. Because those XLP fans aren't that bad. If you have a newer spinner motor fan than I do not think motor swapping is possible without ridiculously weird process and lots of modifications if it is actually possible. Those spinner motor ones from what I hear outperform older ones too so really motor swapping at all would be unnecessary. These fans should last awhile but spares are never a bad thing. Especially for parts. If I missed something or you need more clarifications let me know.

Fantasticfans, Thank you. So I did know the Emerson K55 were considered good/best by many. That is what I wanted to seek out and put a couple on the shelf. I pretty much assumed that before 1997 a Panama or Delta II would have the Emerson K55. I'm guessing now there is a bracket of years I need to look at. I do have the Casablanca manufacture date codes. So how would know if it does or doesn't?

There may be a very slight change in motor appearance visible but don't count on being able to see it. Disassembly is the best way. I am sure there is a motor use timeframe but I don't know it well enough to give you the info.

The first Delta II was Slumber Five, and there was an Inteli-Touch version of Delta II called Discovery.
