Hi,
I have two Hunter fans with a built in receivers. One receiver died about a year ago so I decided to replace it with a Casablanca 99199 universal receiver. This works well, but it does not have reverse working. Per the receiver and remote instructions I should be able to reverse the fan as the original remote supported this as well.
I have it wired as such using the existing pigtail off of the old receiver:
Black from receiver to pink and gray to the motor White from receiver to yellow and white on the motor White from house receiver 5uf 2 wire capacitor to red on motor Blue from receiver to blue and white wires to fan lights
With this configuration, my fan operates but I have no reverse capabilities. Per the wall switch instructions I should be able to do a long press of the fan on/off to switch the fan direction. This does not work. The light flashes twice on the wall control, but the direction stays as is.
Now, why do I care now? Well, the second fan, same model, receiver failed. I set out to fix the receiver this time but after pulling parts and testing/swapping them I am not getting any closer to fixing it so I decided to not spend more time and do the same to this fan as I did to the other. Since I have it apart, figured I would try to understand why reverse is not working.
Any pointers would be appreciated.

Is there wires that are labeled as reverse? What are the model numbers of the fans in question? I'm pretty sure that there are reverse wires coming from the harness, or somewhere else that aren't connected. Was the old receiver in the switch housing, or up in the ceiling canopy, or somewhere else? I'm just trying to get a feel for how the fan was set up from the factory.

Hi Vince, This was built into the motor housing. It is off of model 28198. If I swap the pink and yellow wires, I can get the fan to change direction. Just not sure how to wire it into the universal.

Your fan is called the Royal Oak, according to the model #. You'd likely have to figure out which wires on the new remote receiver are for reverse, but looking at the manual for the 99199 receiver, it doesn't appear to have any specific wires for reverse, except for the fact that it says it shouldn't be installed in fans with an existing remote control receiver. Looking at the 99198 remote, long-pressing on the button with the picture of a fan on it should trigger the reverse feature, at least according to the manual. I hope this helps, but I understand if it's all confusing.

Yes, the 99199 is the same as the 99198. I just installed the the receiver in the fan and have it working the same as the other fan in that it works, just no reverse. Strange that the receiver supports it, but there is not a separate wire off of the receiver for reverse. So not sure how it supports it.

Oh, not that it matters, I have the model wrong, it is 28191. Missed a digit going from the fan to my computer.

While you *should* be able to reverse the fan from the new remote, there must be a connection from the original receiver that is NOT on the new receiver.

The new receiver has a blue out for the lights and a yellow that is the hot wire. So, not sure how this receiver handles reverse. The pink and yellow wires to the fan motor are the ones that control the direction/power. I am okay with no reverse as I am in central Florida, so only use reverse a few times a year, but was wondering if anyone else has tackled this.
I would have replaced the fan by now, but I have two of them, and yes it is a very nice looking fan and I can't find anything comparable these days. I think we paid $300 a piece for the fans back in 2003/2004. It was only a matter of time until the built in receivers bit the dust. I had replaced a 1000uf capacitor on the first unit that completely died a number of years ago, but eventually it completely died and I was not going to spend too much time troubleshooting which got me to this point with these fans.
Thanks for all the help.
