I currently have a Hunter 22454 and 25534. Both have a cap with 2 screws below the switch housing.
I would like to install polished brass light kits for each of them, but can't find any and Hunter doesn't advertise any on their website. - Does anyone have any for sale?
- Has anyone successfully adapted a light kit from another brand to a Hunter fan? I am reading that Hunter is unique and most other brands are universal among themselves.
Would it be as easy as unscrewing the switch housing from the shaft and installing the switch housing and light kit from another brand?

Most light kits are universal, but if you get a Hunter light kit (Hunter's polished brass is actually a gold chrome finish called bright brass), the finishes will match up perfectly. Depending on the model of fan, you might need to find a light kit adapter plate. The 22454 appears to be a Dominion, which should have a removable plastic plug at the bottom of the switch housing (you'll also need to remove the bottom cap), and then you should be able to pull the wires marked for a light kit (usually two wires not attached to anything with wire nuts on the end of them) through the bottom of the switch housing, and connect them to the corresponding wires from the light kit. The 25534 is a Passport II, which you'll need the light kit adapter plate in order to install a light kit onto it after removing the bottom switch cap that says 'Hunter' on it. I'm not sure if Hunter still sells the adapter plates, being that the Passport II is an older fan. The part number is 63688-01-116, if you call Hunter to order it, and is called a Light Kit Adapter.
For both fans, you'll likely need to pull the ceiling canopies down temporarily (you don't need to remove the entire fan... the canopies will temporarily hang on hooks on the mounting bracket to support the fan while you're working on the wiring), and connect the light kit wire coming from the fan to the black (hot) wires coming from the fan in ceiling in order to supply the light kit with power. If you have an extra hot wire (sometimes red in color) coming from the ceiling, and two switches at the wall (one of them likely currently doesn't do anything, since it's not connected to anything up at the ceiling), then you can simply connect the light kit wire to that extra hot wire, and use the second switch for the light kit. Otherwise, you'll have to pull the light kit chain in order to turn the light kit on and off manually if you still want to have the fan turned on without the light kit.

Both fans have the same size 3.5-inch diameter cap held by 2 screws. Neither has a plastic plug. I see light kit adapters that are held on by 3 screws, not 2 screws. Will the 3-screw adapters fit if I drill my own additional hole?
Will the larger diameter light kit from 20444-300 (4/99) or 21445 (4/99) fit with the adapter? or do they only fit the fan it came on?

Here are images of the 20444-300 (4/99) or 21445 (4/99) fans, I mentioned, that have the larger diameter light kit.

And here is an example of the 3-hole light kit adapter I spoke of. Attachments:

The only 2-hole adapters I have seen are for adapting a globe, such as the one pictured here. Attachments:

The light kit mounting plate for the fans with the integrated light kits WON'T fit onto a fan with the removable bottom switch cap like the fans you're looking to add light kits onto. You'll need the special adapter from Hunter, and I think they may still make it. As mentioned, I'd call them and give them the part number I mentioned above. I'd order two of them, one for each fan. The light kits on the two other fans you have WON'T fit onto the fans that require the light kit adapter, as those light kits have the capacitors and wiring for the fans, and the fans won't operate without the light kits plugged into the wiring harness coming from the motor. I wouldn't mess with modifying the fans or the light kits, I would just call Hunter to see if they still have the adapters. Sometimes they even pop up on eBay. I wish you the best of luck with your project. -Vince

I found an NOS light kit from Harbor Breeze, PN 0429785, and it fit. The color is more gold than the Hunter finish, but it fits and works.

I bought some of those light kits at Lowe's for about $5 apiece when they were clearing them out. I'm glad you found something that worked for you! -Vince
