Fasco American spirit installation instructions
greetings.
Looking for help with a ceiling mounted fasco 995.
the flywheel broke and I have to take it down to replace it. Looking for install instructions to carefully take it apart and install the fly wheel.
any help or notes would be appreciated!
Hello!
Those FASCO American Spirit ceiling fans are Great fans and it is definitely worth the investment to replace the flywheel on.
Switchco has replacement flywheels for $30 if you have not ordered one already. If you have your old broken flywheel ring on your fan, take off the metal ring held in by two screws and transfer it over to your new flywheel. Make sure that all the screwholes like up correctly.
www.ceilingfanparts.com/images/flywheelf8076m.htmNow there are no exact Guides on FASCO American Spirit flywheel replacement online, however it this is a task that is completely feasible to do from the ceiling.
I don't have any pictures on hand, however if you do need extra clarification, just let me know through a Direct Message.
You will need an Allen Wrench(Not sure of the exact size so make sure you have multiple small ones on hand), Paper Clip or thin wire, and a Philips Screw Driver.
MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF
You want to take off the lower Switch housing of the fan (Brass component on the bottom of the fan that houses all of the switches.)
This will be done by removing the 3 Screws (2 pictured) around it.
Once you have this free, you will have a Pullchain switch holding this into place. Undo the Pullchain cap to separate the bottom switch housing from the electronics.
Now it has been a while since I have taken one of these apart, so I am not sure what wires are left in the fan. BUT there should be:
- 1 Pullchain and two wires (Brown and white) if there is no integrated light kit
- 2 Pullchains and two wires (Brown and white, connecting the light kit) If there is an integrated light kit.
Regardless, before you take any wiring apart, Make sure you take a picture of how it is set up, as well as mark in where each Lead goes into which part of the pullchain (these will be labeled with L1-L2-L3 and so on on the physical pullchain itself.)
Now you will use the paperclip to insert next to the wires going inside of the pullchain to pull them out. Once you have all 4 leads in the pullchain pulled out, set side the pullchain. Take the wire nuts off of the white/Brown wires as well.
Next you will remove the Black plate at the bottom. It will be held in by an allen screw, so loosen that and then twist off the plate.
Once you are this far, there will be a tiny greasy white plastic spacer underneath the flywheel, pull that off and set it aside as well.
Now you have full access to the flywheel. Undo the set screw with the proper Allen wrench size and pull off the remains of the flywheel. If your new flywheel does not have a setscrew, reuse the one from the old remains on the hub you pulled off.
And for reassembly, just do this all in reverse (Make sure everything lines up etc). Hope this helps!
