After nosing about for a bit, I tryed wrapping a warped blade in a wrung-out wet towel, one layer on each side, and going over it for about 5-10 minutes with a hot [linen setting] steam iron. This clearly loosened and relaxed the wood fibers. I put the blade on a stone counter, covered it with a large heavy cutting board that covered it completely, put about 15 pounds atop the board, and left it overnight. On removing the weight and board the blade remained nearly perfectly flat...enough to sand, refinish, and remount. Did the same with the remaining 7 blades yesterday and will pull them from the home-made press [much higher pressure because of hand clamps] today. So far, so good.
This was easy, relatively quick, and painless. Now to deal with the small splits, then refinishing. No rest for the wicked.
