I have a 1948 Emerson 85461-AN, that was functioning in my childhood home for for 50 some years. When the house sold we removed the fan and for the past decade it's been stored. I'm getting ready to rehang it. It operates and is all complete but quite dirty. I'm cleaning it, adding oil and replacing the main wiring (not the motor wiring) which has a lot of cracked insulation. Couple of questions for those who've done this before:
Should I replace the capacitor with a new solid state? If so how do I determine what model and where do I get it? If not, should I just solder my new wires to those permanently attached to the old capacitor?
The fan was hung via a hook screwed into the ceiling support which hooked around a threaded "eye" that had a porcelain insert. The porcelain insert is cracked. Replacement available? Super glue it back together? Hang via a different method?
Thanks in advance for any advice
