So this year for vacation, I went back to Ocean City, MD, a costal resort town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. For many of you that have been there, you know that it used to be FILLED with cool ceiling fans, although as of recently, that's been changing either due to businesses and restaurants changing and/or remodeling, and/or the salt air taking a toll on the older fans rusting out. Unfortunately due to time, as well as it being the week after the 4th of July, I was unable to get many pictures (I did get some pictures, however, which I will post later), although here is a 2019 update of the ceiling fans of Ocean City, MD:
* Our condo we rented had four fans: one in the living room, and one in each of the three bedrooms. The living room, as well as two of the bedrooms, each had an Appliance White 50" Emerson Pro Series with a bowl light kit. The other bedroom had a white older-style Hunter Mariner with a Hunter spotlight kit. All of the fans were controlled by a 3-speed slider wall control and light dimmer control. I had to reverse all of the fans to downdraft when I came in, as all of them were on updraft. I got pictures of all of the fans in the condo.
Now for the restaurants we ate at:
* There is a chain of pizza restaurants called The Dough Roller. Most locations have never replaced their fans, and are known for having Casablancas. Most locations have Polished Brass Delta II's with K4 light kits, High-Gloss Rosewood blades, and Vienne glass shades. One location has 3 Polished Brass IT Ventura II's with K4S light kits and leaded crystal glass shades. The original location used to have Casablancas and a Bright Brass Fasco Gillespie (on which the flywheel dropped and was replaced by a Polished Brass Hampton Bay Carriage House II), although all of them were replaced with beige-colored 52" Progress Lighting AirPro Deluxes with bowl light kits about 5 or so years ago in a remodel. The side dining rooms of the Coastal Highway locations have brass Hunter Covent Gardens or 1896 Art Nouveaus.
* BJ's Restaurant and Bar has bronze 44" Hunters inside, some with 3 light kits and some without light kits, and Hunter Stonebridges. Outside on the patio, there are multiple white Hampton Bay Farmingtons with multi colored-pained blades, and a single Hampton Bay Minuet III with the multi-colored blades facing down.
* Shenanigan's Irish Pub recently remodeled. In the dining area, there are 4 white 42" Home Depot Hunter Low Profiles with rounded blades (these replaced Polished Brass Harbor Breeze Cheshires, which replaced Antique Brass SMC Emperors), and the recently-remodeled bar has 3 bronze Minka Aire Javas. The bar used to have 4 Bright Brass 42" Hunter Low Profile III's (one of which was removed in the aforementioned remodel, as well as three others that were replaced). On the patio, there are two white Minka Aire Javas. The Javas replaced 3 white older-style Hunter Mariners, which replaced 4 Appliance White early 52" 5-blade Emerson outdoor fans (the ones that looked like Emerson Legend II's with plastic blades and spinner motors).
* Phillip's Crabhouse has a single bamboo outdoor fan at the outdoor hostess stand, and used to have some generic 42" brown outdoor builderfans in the outdoor waiting area, but the fans in the waiting area were removed in a remodel. The stairway to the buffet upstairs used to have a white Hunter Infiniti and a generic 52" white builderfan (which presumably replaced an Infiniti), although the Infiniti was removed, and a Polished Brass Seagull Lighting 52" Quality Max replaced the white builderfan. One of the salad bar areas in one of the buffet dining rooms had some 52" polished brass 5B Heritage GEV builderfans, although I'm not sure if they're still there or not, as the restaurant has recently remodeled, and we sat in a buffet dining room where there were never any fans.
* The Sunset Grille has 2 bronze Quorum Grand Bahamas in the bar area, and bamboo Hampton Bay Tahiti Breezes without the light kits installed in the dining room and on the patio.
* Big Pecker's Bar and Grille has 2 white Harbor Breeze Tebon Gardens: one newer model on the patio, and one earlier model in the souvenir store. They are both severely rusted out from the salt air.
And finally, my other sightings:
* There is a chain of mini golf places called Old Pro Golf. The indoor/outdoor mini golf course my family and I golfed at had a few Brushed Steel Emerson 60" Heat Fans on the actual indoor golf course, and Brushed Steel 56" Emerson Heat Fans in the lobby area. I got a picture of one of the 60" models in the indoor golf course.
* On the boardwalk, there are a couple of games. The game where you throw balls into trash cans (Can Alley) has 2 white Hampton Bay Hawkins fans. The Horse Racing game has 2 rusted-out Antique Brass Hunter Passport III's, which are (surprisingly) still running.
* At the inlet, there are a few shops. There's a restaurant and bar that has a white Hampton Bay/Commercial Electric Quick Connect, and a white 52" Home Depot Hugger. The Hugger recently replaced a white 52" Evergo GEV hugger. A jewelry store has some bronze palm leaf things. A gift shoppe has a white/brass Fasco Olde South, and a white Hampton Bay Farmington, which presumably replaced an Olde South. Another gift shoppe has 2 white 2nd-Gen 52" Fasco Charlestons. Harrison's Harbor Watch Restaurant and Bar has several Antique Brass Emerson Heartwicks with light kits. They replaced 52" Antique Brass Fasco Charlestons years ago. A dog and cat souvenir store has an Antique Brass 52" Hunter Summer Breeze over the entrance with the blades painted white, and a 1980s-era variable-speed Evergo Emperor over one area of the gift shop. A nautical-themed gift shoppe has a few white and Polished Brass 52" Walmart things with light kits.
* Bull on the Beach Restaurant has several 56" bronze Home Decorator's Collection Alturas. Before Bull on the Beach, it was Connor's Beach Cafe, which had several dark-colored 52" Emerson Northwinds from the mid-2000s. Bull on the Beach had moved from another smaller location two doors down, and their old location had white Hampton Bay/Commercial Electric 60" Industrials.
* Tony's Pizza has a mix of white 60" Hampton Bay Industrials and 52" white builderfans.
* Piezano's Pizza has 2 white Hampton Bay/Commercial Electric Quick Connects and 2 Flemish Brass Hampton Bay Quick Connects. They replaced white and Antique Brass Quorum 52" Classics years ago.
* A jewelry store on the boardwalk has 2 white Hampton Bay/Commercial Electric Quick Connects, which replaced 2 52" white huggers with stencil blades years ago.
* Pollock Johnny's Restaurant has 3 Oil-Rubbed Bronze Hampton Bay 52" Glendales and a 68" Home Decorator's Collection Escape. The Escape replaced a Hampton Bay Leland II recently.
* A lemonade stand on the boardwalk has 2 Appliance White 36" Emerson Northwinds.
* Guido's Burritos Mexican Cantina has several newer bronze 52" Hampton Bays. They replaced several Oil-Rubbed Bronze Hampton Bay Carriage House II's recently.
* A vape shoppe on the boardwalk (are those a thing now?) had 2 Brushed Nickel Hampton Bay Lyndhursts. Those replaced 2 generic 4B 52" white GEV builderfans that were installed when the place was a Verizon Wireless store, which was previously a gift shoppe for the restaurant and bar next door.
* A tattoo and piercing parlor on the boardwalk had a Brushed Nickel caged oscillating Matthews Fan Co. double-headed thing that replaced a Natural Iron Hampton Bay Quick Connect.
* A gift shoppe on the boardwalk had 2 white Hampton Bay Minuet II's, which replaced 2 52" Antique Brass Moss WF Series.
* Wockenfuss Candies has 3 36" Leading Edge/Dayton Industrials, and one 56" generic newer white industrial, which replaced a fourth 36" Leading Edge/Dayton industrial that most likely locked up like they always seem to do.
* The Haunted House on the boardwalk has some cheap 36" spinner when you ride through one of the "stunts", although it's too dark to see what it actually is. The backlights make it look like it's running, but I didn't feel a breeze.
* A stand on the boardwalk has some white 60" Hampton Bay/Commercial Electric Industrials.
* A jewelry store on the boardwalk had a few white 52" 5B GEV builderfans, which were recently replaced by white 52" Hunter Bridgeport Outdoors.
* MR Duck's on the boardwalk has had 2 brass SMC/Hampton Bay DC-42's for years.
* The Sketcher's Outlet Store in West Ocean City has a few K55 52" Modern Fan Co. Cirruses in Brushed Nickel.
I'll post those pictures later, as well as any other sightings I remember.
