So I Bought An Emerson Heat Fan Industrial

Seeing as "I bought ___" threads are increasing in number, I figured I'd jump into the mix. So as the title says, I bought an Emerson Heat Fan (HF956BS), the 56" model in brushed steel...and for a STEEP discount. A seller on eBay had one listed in "like new" condition for $36, which is a steal for one of these NIB in a "non-normal-for-industrials" finish IMO. Probably not gonna hang it permanently in my current place; I'm most likely gonna use it as a living room fan when I move. To that effect, I bought a ball-socket kit (for residential application purposes) and a short downrod so the fan can be used on an 8'-10' ceiling; the downrod it comes with is 22" which is too long for most applications. I may decide to test it out just for kicks, but I don't really need to. Unfortunately, I haven't found a classic Heat Fan yet for a decent price; I really want to get my hands on a Stratojet but those are rare and essentially don't exist in California, if you know what I mean. For now, this'll more than do (unless I can sell some of the junk around my house and find a deal on a 48" Heat Fan to have a set of Heat Fans). I'm probably not gonna do a full product review like I did for the Star Propeller, just because we all know what a Heat Fan Industrial is gonna do: haul ass.

Congrats! Thats an excellent deal. I'd like to get one of those one day but I never have a purpose for it. Maybe when I get a garage one day!

Indeed, and thanks! I actually bought it to use residentially; when the move happens, the décor I'm going for fits the "modern industrial/slightly transitional" look, of which the Heat Fan would complete that type of space perfectly. There are plenty of residential fans that fit that theme but if I can get an industrial that looks as nice and is far more capable for 1/5 the price I'd be paying, I'll take it. I actually plan to use one of my residential fans in the garage of my next place; I'll probably use my Edgewood unless I can find a killer deal on a Goldline or another Heat fan in a more basic finish.

Speaking of ball and socket, I've seen 8 Emerson Heat Fan Industrial using ball and socket, and 6 Emerson Loft using canopy from Emerson Heat Fan Industrial.

Alright, the Heat Fan is up! Only temporarily though; it will be coming down and going back into its box soon for future use after I'm done testing it. Pictures:

The fan came basically NIB; all of the components with this fan came in mint condition and the motor came with a couple of minor scratches that could pop up on brand new products and go unnoticed, but for some odd reason, the little "coin" Emerson puts in the middle of these motors was pried off when I got the fan. I decided against returning it because the motor and all of the fan's other components were otherwise fine (even the wire leads hadn't been messed with; some idiot probably bought this fan NIB, pried off the "coin", and returned the fan when they found out the hard way it wasn't light kit adaptable), plus putting the "coin" back on was nothing a little metal epoxy couldn't fix. I did, however, talk to the eBay store that sold the fan (it wasn't ValueBrothers btw) and they actually gave me a refund on the entire fan without taking it back. This deal, regardless of the pried off "coin", was already sweet for $36, but I ended up getting a free fan in mint condition. Pretty sweet, I must say.

I know the install looks messy right now. As I said, this is a temporary install, and I'm still waiting for the ball/socket components and downrod in the proper finish to get to me. Even then, I'll only leave it up for a little bit.

The fan is complete! The canopy, downrod, and ball took until today to get delivered to me, and I just got done reinstalling the fan with the ball/socket components and shorter, 6" downrod. Here's a picture:

I will update this post with more pictures of this installed in my bedroom; as I said, I will eventually be taking this down so I can put it back in its box. I will break in the bearings on this for a little longer, however.

I am currently using this on a remote control I have lying around, which is 6uf + 5uf; I think 6uf is too fast for a low speed for this fan, but I think 11uf is perfect for medium.

Performance impressions of this are very positive, as anyone would expect. I get around 85 RPM on low. But, for the length of time I plan on using it in my bedroom, it's fine; when this gets installed permanently, I will use it on its included 4.5uf/10uf/14.5uf control.
Medium is 11uf, which I think makes the perfect functional medium speed for this fan; it's around 155 RPM and cools this bedroom as well as the high speeds of past fans here.
High speed is insane, as expected; it's about 300 RPM. It performs as well as the Goldlines, cast Daytons and older HRS's of the world, or like any quality industrial should. The airflow pattern with these Caribbean Breeze style blades seems to be somewhere in between a normal straight blade and an upward-curved blade as far as airflow at a distance goes and closer to the former being that these are still straight blades; I get an extremely strong breeze under the fan as well as away from the fan, not as much as curved blades but maybe a little better out wide than a normal straight blade, like what Leading Edge industrials have.

Coupling the fan's performance with Emerson's characteristic build quality, the Heat Fan is legit. Probably earns the title for the best we've got for steel on steel industrials; this is right with the good cast industrials out there. We all knew that, though.
