So I just got Saturday those two fans from Montréal Kijiji.one SMC Park Avenue 52" from 1991 and a Banvil Goldline industrial 36" from 1979. Seller was asking 20$ each. For a small 40$ I got two very clean fans, apart from the layer of dust on the SMC that took me 5 minutes to clean. The worst part was to mount that huge and heavy SMC with that crappy ball and socket like hanging bracket. The ball is held by the lower canopy which makes the install more complicated to do. And the electrical boxes in my appartement arent all to code so I had to install the fan in my dining room instead of my bedroom, where I wanted to have it first. It's my first stack motor in my collection, and now the biggest fan I own, outstanding the 48 inches 4 Saisons industrial I bought in 2015. My girlfriend really liked the SMC so I decided to buy it because at first I was looking only for the Banvil. For itself, The banvil came with an solid state infinite speed wall control and the J hook mount for the ELECTRICAL BOX! This part is sold new around 20$ and more here so this was really a deal. I can now install J hook fans at my place. I removed my nadair spinner in the dining room to install the SMC. I am planning to replace the 4 Saisons Galaxy in my office with the Banvil Goldline 36".
one blade seems to be bent so the fan wobbles at high speed. The low speed is very slow and nice looking. The medium speed is very stable, also fast and powerful. It's my favorite speed I think. Pretty neat for 20$
I should take a picture of the tag on the fan because it shows the serial number starting with 79. Also, there isnt any mention of where the fan was built, but I would say Hong Kong with such an heavy motor. It is interesting to see how Banvil managed to use similar motors for their different lines. For exemple, this shape of motor is also found on the earliest Orange Lines and Silver lines.
another good 20$ investment! the bearing (turned by hand) are quiet. I can't wait to try it on my 4 speed quiet operation wall control.
enjoy!
