My university had a 1980s-1990s 52" Hunter Original in a study room that didn't run. I told the maintenance department to check the oil. Maintenance looked at it and said they'll just replace it with a new fan. I told them to set aside the Original, I'll find a home for it - I told them that there is a community dedicated to keeping these fans alive. Of course, they ended up replacing it with some Harbor Breeze, Litex, Craftmade, whatever boring builder fan. They never contacted me about the old fan - I fear it's been scrapped because people won't simply check the oil in their vintage fans. I feel kind of guilty for telling them - maybe the motor was completely burned out anyway. I guess I'll never know. Rant over. Edit: the new fan is a Seagull Quality Max. It's quiet and doesn't wobble yet. It should move a decent amount of air, but can't because it's too close to the wall. To be fair, I never saw the Original run on high, either. I suspect a 38" Original was originally there when the building was built in the early '80s - maybe they didn't oil that one either and decided "bigger is better" when they had to replace it.
