I just bought a house that was built in 1959 and this fan was in the den. I just replaced this fan and was looking for some information about it. It seems to be old, and when I layed it down a clear yellow colored oil ran out of it. It is very heavy compared to fans now days. Any info would be great. Thanks. Your fan is made in March 1982, according to serial number 2850. You should definitely keep it or sell to other fan collectors. Hunter still sells oil for those fans, and upper switch housing is where the oil are stored.

Great fan there, I would keep it if I were you since it will outperform many many many of the newer fans being sold today. Longevity is also another thing about these Hunter Originals, they are well known for holding up for decades without fail. The yellow Oil it uses is SAE 10 non-detergent oil. the fan takes in about 1 Oz. of it I believe.
