Every swag kit I find online is not rated for ceiling fan use, I would like to hang two ceiling fans, one in a live room and one in an adjacent room, neither room has overhead wiring. If there are any available, could you please post a link?

Home Depot and Lowe's sell em, but they're overpriced at $15 per kit...

I need something that looks better than an ordinary extension cord. Also, it’s for a rental apartment, I don’t think an extension cord would pass any sort of safety inspection.

The ones they sell at home depot will work even though they have a switch.. Ceiling fans and lamps are not that far off...

You could make one, just get some chandelier chain, a plug, and some wire.. 18/3 should be sufficient and not too pricey.. But you're going to spend some money.. I don't think 15 dollars is expensive at all.. Wire isn't cheap..
The only issue with a lamp kit is it probably won't have grounding.. You can certainly use the fan without it, though safety standards would argue otherwise..

You need 6/3 minimum Seriously though, I have only ever used three wire cords for swag kits...if I am expected to run a grounded cable for a concealed install, why not do the same for something surface-mounted?
