I've just about had it with buying Casablanca fans. After the Delta 1's bearings went out and I failed to replace the bearings in 3 different Casablanca fans, I finally gave up and bought a new fan for my room. I got a factory-renewed architectural white Casablanca Panama. It looks perfect in my room, but it has one problem…
THE BEARINGS ARE BAD RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX!!!!! Not to mention the motor hums loudly!!! This thing is even noisier than the Delta I!!!!!
I'm SICK of this bearing curse! I can NEVER find a fan with good bearings!!!! Is it normal for stack motor fans to be noisy or do I just have bad luck?

My Delta II is silent after I replaced bearings. I mean, I can still hear some noise when running the motor without the blades, but airflow is much louder and washes it out. Maybe you could send or sell or trade them to someone who knows how to replace the bearings.

I'm going to try lithium grease. If that doesn't work I'll put the Hampton Bay Sinclair back up until I can buy a replacement fan.

That is just bizarre. Sure, Casablanca has been known for its quirks (Inteli-Touch boards failing, Slumber-Quiet turning into "Slumber-Quit" and potentially fragile flywheels) however bearing noise is certainly not a typical issue for their stack motor line. Could it be that excessive humidity is prematurely ruining them? I'm going to try lithium grease. If you go that route, I would highly suggest Jig-A-Loo brand grease. Funny name, however it does work. WD40 also offers (lesser quality) white lithium products. I have a Panama Damp in white. I bought it for something but then went with a different fan. I tested it and its perfectly silent. 100% complete and with original box. Same goes with my 1997 Panama and just about every Casablanca fan within a 50 mile radius of here

It's just that I don't understand why every quality or vintage fan I find has bad bearings! I'd love to try to do a motor transplant, but I've already failed to do one. I can't return it because I already modified it to run on a remote receiver.

Remember that Supra in your laundry room you told me you were replacing? If you still have it and you can't fix your Panama, I'd switch your Sinclair to your laundry room and your Supra to your bedroom, that way you'd actually have something in there that's effective.

Hmm I have only one stack motor fan, my Fasco, and it's bearings are a bit noisy. They're not loud, but it is just a whussshing noise that you can hear if it's really quiet.

I didn't think of that! That's genius! But it won't work because my mom will not let me replace the Supra.

I understand your frustration, as I have the bad bearings plague as well! 90% of my collection is totally unusable for this reason.. Ironically enough, I bought a cheap childhood fan not that long ago (Hampton Bay San Marino), and of all fans the bearings in that thing are fine..
My Panama had noisy bearings out of the box as well.. It's not very loud and the sound isn't harsh enough to really be annoying, so I've just lived with it, and it hasn't gotten any worse or better over the past 5 years or so I've had it.. The 'Seasons' fan I bought from HD Supply had noisy bearings out of the box as well.. On that fan the noise seems to come and go, which really makes no sense..
I recently ordered a new Craftmade CXL,, will be interesting to see if the bearings are good in there or not.. I'd certainly hope so,, but the plague is pretty wide spread over here..

Good news! They're sending me another architectural white Panama II for free. Hopefully this one works correctly! I can live with the loud bearings for one more week.

It reminds me of how there is a bad capacitor plague in certain buildings, like conservatory at Golden Gate Park, nearly all of the Emerson Sea Breeze I pulled have bad capacitor, but one of them works fine though it wobbles on high and makes noise by crashing on the rod by downrod. And Cheeburger Cheeburger have 6 Craftmade CXL and all have bad capacitor. One spins really slow on low and that one works fine on high. Other one is a bit slower on high but doesn't work on low. Rest are slow on high but have normal low. There is also a Health Club with 3 Modern Fan Co. Ball, first controlled by a Lutron dimmer, then by Levition dimmer, then by Lutron Skylark 3-speed wall control. All three spin slow at first, but when Lutron was replaced with Levition, they spin a little faster but still not nearly at speed from factory, and when it was replaced with 3-speed wall control, they spin about the same, so it means that they have bad capacitor, maybe worn out by dimmer. So certain buildings I had been to had bad capacitor plague on certain fan model.

You're buying used fans. Some may be more worn out than others, its just luck of the draw. Buying a new fan with bad bearings is just a QA mishap, mass production is never perfect.

Did you buy the Panama from an authorized dealer? If so it should have the 120 day in-home warranty on it. Casablanca will send someone to your house to replace the XLP motor at no charge.
