My friend has a Casablanca Zephyr EX16713, 1444T. I went to replace a bulb and didn't notice a broken bulb in the socket and shorted out the unit. The fan comes on but no lights. Fan controller doesn't work and the switches feel funky, like a breaker that won't lock. Old three switch Intellitouch switch, the model before the W-32.
I'm guessing the problem is in the controller. What are people replacing these older two-wire controllers with?
Thanks!

Does the controller have the light and Fan buttons bounce back? If that happens, then it is normal and functional. I am not entirely sure what is wrong with the fan, but it is possible that the LDM (Light Drive Module) in the fan might be fried, which is located in the switch housing. I am sure there are many other experts other than me that are here on this forum, but they may have some other advice/solutions to give.

A lot of the time the problem isn't in the controller. You may have shorted out the board. Your fan is from 1989 according to the serial #. The control is the W-11. At this point you have 3 options: 1.) Find a W-32 and swap it in for the W-11, see if the problem is fixed (controls are anywhere from $50-$70 on eBay). This requires the least effort, but is somewhat expensive. 2.) Take the fan down and convert it to a single-speed fan and replace the W-11 with a standard in-wall light dimmer and 3-speed fan slider control. This is your cheapest option, but takes a little more effort than the first. 3.) Buy a conversion kit that converts the fan to W-85 (the newest control), and is Plug-'n'-Play. This is the costliest option. You can send your friend's board and control to a place called Fixmycasablancafan.com, and they'll test both to see if either is faulty. If you were to try the control with another fan, I've been told that a bad control just won't work with a good board. It won't damage anything further. As I mentioned before, rarely do the controls go bad. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the feedback. We went to Home Depot and got a new Hampton Bay fan. New tenant moving in on the first. Cheapest and quickest resolution and it has a remote which cures the problem of having the wall controller on the opposite side of the room in an inconvenient location.
Yes, the switches bounced back.

Yes, the switches bounced back. Yep, that is a much faster solution. Don't dispose of the fan though, those Casablancas and their parts can go for some money on ebay as well. Especially the wall controls.

Did you keep the old fan? If so it might be worth looking into fixing it, or selling to a collector (one of us) who can fix it if you can't. Good idea to swap it out for a cheaper fan... I put Hampton Bays in place of Emersons in my grandparents' vacation condo that they let people stay in... the old Emersons weren't the "high-quality" ones, but still Emerson, nonetheless. Besides that, I wanted them for my own collection.

DO NOT throw out that Casablanca fan. We fan collectors would be interested in buying off of you.
