I was talking with Dan about Casablancas advice for noise problems with their fans (specifically their older ones) and thought that I would post this information off of one of their company videos from before they were bought out by GE.
Most noise complaints are due to loose glassware.
If you hear a grinding or clicking noise or the blades seem to be moving slower than they should, check for a dropped flywheel. You can adjust the flywheel by removing the set screw with an allen wrench.
Check for loose wire nuts in the switch housing. Also check tightnesss of blades. Use felt washers in between to reduce tension on the blades.
Filament Hum: bulbs should be no higher than 60 watts. Check for defective bulbs. Some buzzing with dimmed Lights
Motor Whiring or swishing caused by unevenly lubricated bearings. Run fan for several days to break in.
60 cycle hum: Slumber Quiet Fan: Replace Circuit board Delta Fan: Replace Delta Board Non-slumber fan: these older fans have a 60 cycle hum. Use W-4 wall control with fan speed set to high speed. Intellitouch: If voltage exceeds 127 volts, small amount of 60 cycle hum.

Interesting that this is what they said in their video designed for dealers and repair shops. Also, notice that this method requires you to buy their wall-control.

Or buying a replacement circuit board from them. And God forbid you should attempt to repair a fan, and not be factory authorized. They want their money, bottom line.

Yep. Non-authorized repairs void the warranty.

Yep. Non-authorized repairs void the warranty. Not only that, but I've been told they'll sue any unauthorized agent doing repairs. Doesnt scare me, but nevertheless . . .
