Hi: I have a Beverly Hills ceiling fan marked model 0491 52RK/42RK. The fan has a dual-control wall switch to control the lights and fan speed. When you tapped the switch in either direction, you would hear a loud "beep" (1-3 short beeps to cycle through speed or dimming, and a long beep for "off"). Recently the fan and lights stopped responding to the wall switch, and I only heard a loud "ticking" coming from the fan itself. I unmounted it and there's a controller module in the housing (see picture). I believe that's where the ticking was coming from, and I'm guessing it's burned out...is this the likely problem, and is this part replaceable?

Depending on the fan you have, it may be replaceable. Do you happen to have a picture of the fan itself? Beverly hills parts to be specific are no longer made, but you could probably get a replacement from Modern Fan Co, which is closely related to this company.

Thanks Brian: The fan looks like this one, but it has a shroud above the blades with 4 x 40W bulbs reflecting upwards.

Does it look like this? I think the best bet for a Control Would be this one: www.ylighting.com/mod-mf002.htmlModern Fan Co's light and Fan controller.

Brian, that's the model exactly, but the part that is failing (I think), is the controller that's recessed into the shroud (the semi-circular black device in the picture). This is the source of the loud "ticking" that is coming from the fan. The wall switch that's currently installed is just a double-rocker two-circuit device. Are you saying that the wall switch you linked to incorporates what was in the shroud-mounted controller and it would just be bypassed by the new switch? Or are you saying the wall switch is defective? This is the wall switch.

I really wonder what the fan controller looks like inside, the beeping thing is pretty cool on these things. These original controllers are also rare too. Shame it decided to fry itself. Well, if any one of the things (Receiver/ Wall control) that control the fan are not working properly, the whole system is broken, as there is no way to replace the old control and the old receiver (As Beverly Hills is a dead company). So it would be best to replace both the receiver (black thing) and the wall control at once. The Controller I linked should work almost like the one you have, it can control the fan and the light separately. Actually, the controller I provided does not even need a receiver. Just wire the ceiling fan without the receiver back into the ceiling, and install the wall switch, and you are able to control the fan and the uplight on that single switch.

Thanks for your help Brian...I contacted Modern Fan and they directed me to the 004 switch/controller. I was able to install it, but I'm having problems reconnecting the fan. I just removed the old controller and used the same wires for the new controller: and replaced the wall switch with the new one: and as you can see the wall switch has power, but nothing is working...the wall switch LED doesn't light up and nothing's happening on the fan obviously. Not sure if I'm missing something obvious with the wiring or if there's something wrong with the replacement unit...

Do the instructions for the control talk about it needing a receiver of some sort?
