That is my thinking exactly! Unfortunately, this fan will no longer be taking the place of my Hampton Bay Marquesas. However, my parents will allow it to be installed in the garbage... That's a bummer.. Are you sure you want to install something so nice in the garbage?

That's a bummer.. Are you sure you want to install something so nice in the garbage? Although I made an effort to restore the fan, it is still what some would deem "rough" (imperfect finish, a noticeable oil smell, etcetera). Besides, the space is climate controlled.

So are you still looking for a Casablanca in nickel then or are they making you keep the Marquesas in its place?

I've got a few originals installed here, some j hook and some with a u bolt. All are doing great. If you use a j hook be sure to use a slightly smaller drill bit than the hooks threads as to ensure the threads grip the wood tightly. But besides that should be a easy install

I have looked high and low for a Casablanca in Nickel for you, Max, that is not at full price. But, none of them are available to Canadians, and/or are way too expensive, or both. So, my suggestion for a high quality, well made fan that hauls better than most things that are K55-type is the Fanimation Edgewood. I know you told me it is a bit modern, but so is the metropolitan, or the Concentra, or the Capistrano. Right now, the Edgewood is essentially the best value for money fan on the market, currently going for the lowly price of $184 US dollars. www.hansenwholesale.com/ceilingfans/fanimation/model.asp?ProdNo=TF610SN-WAWhile the casas definitely have more class, this fan is definitely a workhorse and should look pretty good. But, ultimately it is not to my discretion whether or not you buy a certain fan, but this is still an option to consider. However, I did find a HUGE bargain: m.ebay.ca/itm/EMERSON-50-Ceiling-Fan-Premium-Barbeque-Black-CF4800BQ-B52MH-Mahogany-Blades-/381481779424?nav=SEARCHNow, this is obviously a premium in black and not a Casablanca in Nickel/steel, but this is an insane deal. The blades are included. This fan is eligible for free shipping if you live in the lower 48 states, but can be shipped to Hawaii and Alaska, albeit not free. And it apparently ships to Canada, given that it was posted on the Canadian version of eBay. However, it seems as though neither you nor your parents approve of a Barbeque Black fan. And I also don't think you would want to take the entire fan apart and repaint it in a finish that you like. But, It is posted, just in case. And that just about sums up what I have been able to find for you, Max.

He can only install it in the garage of his house, which absolutely sucks.

why can't he install it in the family room? His parents dislike the idea I guess.

O,, I did not realize it was a climate controlled environment.. I suppose in that case,, it would be perfectly fine..

So are you still looking for a Casablanca in nickel then or are they making you keep the Marquesas in its place? For my living room, the Marquesas will remain. I did add several custom nickel accents though I have looked high and low for a Casablanca in Nickel for you, Max, that is not at full price. But, none of them are available to Canadians, and/or are way too expensive, or both. That is an excellent deal, however my parents have requested I set aside a new in box Hampton Bay Altura that came in at the ReStore (for the family room). It could be worse, as at least the motor is somewhat decent... That is all fine and dandy, Mark, but Max's parents won't let him install the original in his family room. He can only install it in the garage of his house, which absolutely sucks. The turning point for them was installing a J-hook. Why they find issue with a tried and true method of fan mounting which has been in existence for countless years is beyond me. Regardless, they both approve the idea of installing it the garage, which is certainly a silver lining

Regardless, they both approve the idea of installing it the garage, which is certainly a silver lining The 56" Altura has a 188×20mm motor in it, right? I have no clue what it has... But, it does move pretty good air for its size, at 6,470 CFM. The curved blades are the reason it can achieve that high CFM, although they do spin at a slow RPM. They probably did not like the sound of you screwing the J-Hook directly to the wooden joist, as opposed to installing a fan that has a mounting bracket attaching to the threaded studs in the electrical box, for which reason escapes me. Do you absolutely HAVE to install the Altura in the family room (or the UFO fan as you used to call it), or can you install a different fan? Because if you can install something different, I would at least recommend a K55-type fan.

My uncle has the larger, 68" Altura in his living room.. Its not my favorite looking fan,, but that aside I find it to be a good unit.. It really stirs up the air,, its nearly silent,, and he runs it continuously for several months of the year without any problems..
