Yesterday I gave Below Cost Appliances a call to confirm availability of the Belle Meade. Apparently, they are "not currently shipping out ceiling fans" due to them "being in storage" (how on Earth that prevents one from shipping I have no idea). Regardless, I was instructed to contact Hunter since the fan "ships from the manufacturer" (according to Below Cost Appliances' website). I gave them a call, and was told that the fan has been long since discontinued. Apparently, it was last sold in 2007 and no known-resellers stock new units...at least this story was cohesive! I am tempted to call Below Cost Appliances a second time and inquire as to the availability of the Bell Meade in their warehouse. It would be fascinating to uncover if one is even "allowed" to purchase this fan, assuming stock actually exists to begin with.

I at first wanted a fan from them but realized quickly who they were. Stuff like that is too good to be true, I learned.

I feel scam is not necessarily an accurate descriptor here. It is not as if I ordered this fan, and was shipped a box of bricks. However, that does not excuse the fact that there is certainly misleading information present on their website!

It is very odd, thats for sure.
Max, do you have any other models you are now contemplating or are you now on the quest for a Belle Meade?

Scam is not the appropriate word. They have a database of product that may or may not be available, however they do not accept payment for items they don't have or won't ship. It is undoubtedly misrepresented on the website, but they make the situation very clear if you try to place an order.
They're probably correct in saying that the product ships from the manufacturer's warehouse though, the new stuff I get always comes direct from the manufacturer. An online distributor like that assuredly doesn't keep such inventory, and I wouldn't say that Hunter having discontinued stock sitting somewhere is a totally crazy notion (they'll never tell you they have it if they do), but in the end the whole thing is pretty ridiculous. I'd really love to just have a roam through the Hunter/Casablanca warehouses and see what might be hiding on shelves somewhere.

Thats what I wonder.
In 2014, Frugal Fair took over most of Hunters "Manufactured Refurbished" fans instead of various sellers on ebay and other places. Apparently Frugal Fair is a warranty liquidator from my research.
They got the typical fans such as a Hunter Ridgefield that a million get returned to Lowes but than they started putting out other stuff from 2000-Present, more mainsteam models like the Vista came in larger numbers that were discontinued years ago... Meanwhile the rarer stuff came in small quantities. I don't know whats they story, I've bought a couple Beacon Hills for people that were your stereotypical refurbished fan. Then I got other stuff in which it was marked that but it was literally placed in the brown box with the sticker coming out form the box completely brand new..
I don't know if this was their most recent clearout or what exactly. But I would love to go doing that roaming myself. Did Hunters warehouse change when they moved their offices a few years ago?

Hell, the whole website advertising and everything could be fake. I advise against it so that they don't rob your money and not refund it when it is revealed that this is false advertising after all. Since this is not reputable, I would just forget about the whole idea and go get an Edgewood even though it is a bit modern for the space... Or better yet, put up a K55-type Casa/K55 Emerson or something that isn't even spinner motor at all.

The fact that they cannot ship the item because its being stored is absolutely ridiculous! It is still a scam if they take your money, say they will ship the item being requested, don't ship it at all, and claim your money is non-refunfable. A lot of scam artist businesses do this to their customers. They are saying that they cannot ship the item due to it being in storage because they don't have the item but they want to appear to have it so that Max can hand over $200, whether on a debit card or in cash, to these fakers and not get what he paid for, or not get anything at all. Then they would say his money is non-refunfable. That's how scam artist businesses work. I would not call a manager, I would simply drop the whole deal and not even attempt to go through them for anything. That's outrageous! So outrageous that if I were Max, I would have canceled the possibility of getting a Belle Meade from them and looked elsewhere for a different fan that suits his needs. If anyone here cannot visualize the writing on the wall, then I will tell you: This is a SCAM! They will steal peoples' money if that person/those people go through them for anything. Max, when you get back on the forum, please read: You really like the Belle Meade ceiling fan, as do I. This is the only place that claims to have this piece in stock. They are an untrustworthy source, better said as a scam artist business, and I absolutely repudiate their listings. Since you are in this predicament, don't be naïve enough to trust them with your money, which with this type of company, you most likely won't receive back when they either give you the wrong fan or don't give you a fan at all; read above paragraphs for more details. Because of how this looks like it is about to play out, I am requesting a list of requirements for this fan you will be installing in your living room, so I can find something that will fit with your decor in the area of installation.

Cole, Jordan, you have both made excellent points here! Noah, your concern is appreciated, however this has become slightly overblown in my eyes. Is it ridiculous and illogical to knowingly list a product which is not for sale? I reckon yes. However, is this practice in and of itself a scam? No. Although the Hunter Belle Meade is certainly an excellent choice, it is actually not my "dream fan." An Original in brushed nickel tops my list...
