Hello I am new, I have three ceiling fans of various age. I have questions and will ask about one fan at a time. Thank you for any help you might give. This Hunter fan was manufactured in Fulton NY and is a type c17. My father told me that he had the fan "restored" in the 1960s. I used the fan in the 1990s and ran great until stored in n1994. Since 1994 it has been stored poorly (dry, but not well protected like from mice, dust, debris). I would like to install and enjoy this fan, but do not want to just install the fan blades and then turn it on. I presume there are lubricants I should replace and possibly other things I should check. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted I will follow this post later with another Hunter 52 inch (1985?) that is solid brass and a really old 36"? fan made by Robbins and Meyers. Thank you for any help you might give. JBS

My apologies if my question is so basic that I should have found an answer prior to my question. If there is a manual I may buy, I will buy it. I am mechanically inclined re auto engines. To start even an electric motor/engine seems improper as damage could be done. I would very much appreciate advise on these fan motors that I have poorly protected for 20 years.

These fans take oil. There should be an oil hole in the top. If it's sat for a while you might want to squirt a little WD40 to clean it out before filling it with 10 weight non detergent motor oil such as zoom spout or Hunter Original oil.
I would test them in series with a light bulb (you'll need a few hundred incadescent watts) for the first time in case the wires are frayed. After that, I would clean them, polish them, wire a small fuse in series, hang them, and enjoy them. Other people would do a complete tear down, refinish and rebuild.

Thank you Obi-Wan. Is there any type of fan restoration manual for Hunter fans?

Here is some info regarding things to check when wanting to use a fan that has been idle for a while. Thanks for the advice here. Google seems a better fan forum. Obi-wan I sincerely thank you. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

None of that has anything to do with refurbishing. Brian Hicks is the expert on Hunter Originals, he can be found on the DT Vintage Fans forum.
