Nothing interests me more than this antique piece of ugliness. ! no matter how ugly, it still seems to be the most loved, popular and is probably still remembered. perhaps its beauty lies in its so called ugliness. here are some of the ads, which keep featuring the ball fan: in this ad, a ball fan along with a havells SS390 and an unknown table fan are insulted: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLrxSOA1XWkhere it appears for a few seconds in the beginning and in the middle and end www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS-w6Cus1Mc

I also like a lot the Crompton Parkinson Ball fan but I do not find it ugly at all. I love the idea and I find it very modern for the time that it came out. (approx 1935) I used to think that they could be as recent as the early 1960's.
I have never seen one with wood blades like in the second video you posted. The first one must be a smaller 120 cm.
I particularly like the version with the blades curled up seen outside of India.
Here's a video of a brown 140 cm one in India:

I like 'the ball fan' a lot! I don't see it ugly at all. I think its a pretty neat piece for the time, the beginning of the design that rests in pretty much all fans today.

yeah jordan is right. the design of the ball fan has been inherrent in almost all the crompton fans of the generations. it is seen today even in the crompton greaves aura and avancer models.
the wood blades present in the second video was probably supplied by havells.
you guys will find it interesting to know that nearly 15 years ago, i had a ball fan in my house. but its motor tag read "AHURA", instead of "crompton parkinson".

I definitely believe you about them being labeled Ahura because even in those days they were relabeled fans and mixes between local companies or parent companies like with GEC and Xpelair. The brown one in the video was apparently Crompton Greaves.

Wow, well then you should be able to find one easily. I hope you do. Yikes, I imagine they were pretty heavy but not that much. The heaviest fan I have right now is about 12,5 kilos.

Tais @lemiux it is intersting to know that there are fans out there which are heavier than the ball fan. what exactly is it that you guys have.?

I would guess its probably a typical stater also, but the shape of the motor and heaviness would lead me to conclude that its different. Hunter Originals are pretty heavy, the one I have is upwards of 50 pounds.
