I'm in my second "formal" semester of college....
I student taught my last year of high school which I enjoyed a lot. In the past I've worked in an auto shop which I also enjoyed doing. Right now I'm currently working at a computer repair business as a technical support desk technician (sounds much better than it is lol). I also serve a number of positions in my church, I am a soundboard operator, I work on the computer to put up the lyrics for the music and such, and I help run the high-school ministry which is my favorite thing to do there.

Sounds quite busy!
I'm in the process of switching churches.
My to be previous one is the case of a dying church ultimately and I'm 22 and have tried to volunteer for different things but they just don't want to change or put any effort into fixing anything and so forth. Their youth ministry which was 2 youth "members" in 2009 grew to about 15 by 2011 and is now down to essentially 3 (sometimes 4) within the past year and that includes my girlfriend and myself yet they don't see any problem with that nor that they are lucky if they get a new adult member every 2-4 years anymore.

We have just about 20 kids that regularly attend the youth ministry meetings every week, which is fantastic because the church itself has less than 300 members. The whole thing as a whole is growing; not rapidly but consistently, which is good. We have a youth pastor, and then I think 5 or 6 other 'leaders' for the group, me being the youngest at 18. Some of the students are actually older then I am, which is odd at times, but if you're called to do something then age becomes irrelevant. I recently started posing videos of our meetings on my YouTube page. There's only a few so far, I think they're all of Matt, the pastor. I do speak at the meetings myself from time to time, but it takes a while to prepare all that and I don't have that kind of time too often right now.

Thats a great number. Our area is very diverse with different faiths and church sizes. I prefer a smaller church although not too small. Our youth group/young adults is technically supposed to be 7th grade so like 13ish through High School. Presently there is one 18 year old and then I'm the oldest at 22. The leader is 27 and we had a member that was 28 as it evolved into a young adults thing which was supposed to be like 18-24... The 28 year old thing got very annoying as he would constantly try to prove everyone wrong. Eventually he quit coming and only comes on Sunday's as one guy and him would constantly make the tension very awkward and not church appropriate whatsoever but some of the stories of watching them bicker were priceless.
The youtube thing is a very good idea and is realistically a modernized version of recording sermons and handing out tapes/cd's so it helps out those who can't make it or give a preview to those scouting out a new place to learn and worship.
I agree age does become irrelevant especially in a church. I know of several churches where they would get rid of youth ministries and just have Sunday School because they thought it was a waste of money but in reality you need youth because eventually they will take the church over and also you want to grow (the right way) for the ultimate goal(s) of why you even have a church to begin with.

The part of the country I live in is generally not spiritual, in fact there are many people that are against God. They have done things around here like try to remove "under God" from the Pledge in schools. There are very few people that go to church, and even fewer that actually get involved.
I like a smaller church as well, so you can get to know the people in it better. The only downfall is you end up with less people volunteering to help with things.
We don't group the kids by age, which I think is a good idea. It goes by grade level, the youth ministry group goes from middle school to high school. Then after high school we have the "Young Adults" group which is for anyone beyond high school. I'm not entirely sure how that group works, I've never been to one of those meetings because I just don't have the time right now. I'm sure its good, the person that runs it also heads the youth ministry group, and he's very good at what he does. I do plan to start going during the summer.
The YouTube is a great outreach for the reasons you mentioned, but also in my case, now all the fan collectors that follow my channel will hopefully watch the videos, as well as all the skaters that follow me (and a number of them really need to see it lol).
The youth is extremely important, which is why I do what I do. Not only do they obviously take over the church in the future, but especially in this generation with the way the culture is turning and all the negative influences they're exposed to all the time. High school is a critical time in their lives, we only have the opportunity to influence these students for a few hours each week, we and all the other churches need to make sure its done well.

Our area is unique. We have some people who are very anti-God but you never really talk to them but read about them in the local newspaper opinion pieces. Our area is predominantly Catholic but the actual church attendance for them is declining significantly.
I was pushing for a high school group and then a college/post high school group but the actual leader of the group wouldn't do it. The church suggested once a month for it but he still refused. At the time I wasn't in any position to lead it or all with school taking up too much time then. But it would have been potentially beneficial but then again with the youth leader they have it'd probably be just a bunch of talking because he can't stay on topic let alone keep everyone else on task which is a shame.
A friend of mines church has a young adults group that only meets in the summer and they plan it months in advanced so everyone can take off and all and its pretty neat I feel.
I agree with you, I realize not everyones gonna like it but for me personally attending youth group and church was beneficial although to each his own I know many will only come one week and you'll never see them again but at least they tried it and maybe learned something. Its like going in a fan store you don't know what they'll have you might be back or you might not come back but you'll remember something about it lol.

If I were to guess, I'd say the majority here is probably Catholic as well.
I've been told that we have an average of 4 new members in the Sunday morning services every week. Of course not all of them stay, or come back right away, but its fair to hope they got something out of it, and maybe they'll finally understand it next time someone tells them.
