Ok, here's the pros and cons for a switch over to vbulletin starting with the cons.
Cons:
1: Current forum data would be left here.. Though this current forum would be open as read only forever and posting would be shut down. 2: Vbulletin tends to attract alot of advertising spambots.. So there would be alot more security, as for here no one has to worry about pretty much any spam.. Signing up to the new forum, each registration would be moderated before approved.
Pros:
1: Data would be owned by us at VCF and not a third party (proboards) 2: The layout and images can be altered..
If a switch over were to happen, it would be at least another 3 or 4 months before it happens.. I would need to purchase the software which is about $300 and would need to do that so I would have immediate support if any issues occur.. Also if you are already a member to the Member Galleries you would already be signed up, as the new forum would be created off that software..
If anyone has anymore pros and cons I forgot to mention, or any questions please post.. Also if you agree with a switch over, reply with "Agree" or "Disagree"...

Really the only benefit is if owning the data can bring in some revenue. The format and layout here is fine, lack of spam is great, having all the old content is great (although the search function sucks).

Agree. As you've said, lock this board but provide a link to it for all of the old content...similar to what you did with the OLD-old message board.

Ya, I would link this forum from the site still and even link it from the new forum... Maybe even as an archive..

Disagree...I think most of us are getting used to the new layout by now, and having all of our content on one board makes more sense.

i am getting used to this layout.. it just needs a little tweak and this forum is perfect
i would really like if all the member accounts and posts can be shifted to the new forum if possible.. if the contents are not transferrable than.. i cant say anything except keeping it as archive as a directory
we already have the member galleries vbulletin forum, we can use that and make it into our new forum with a link to the proboards

I am still completely neutral, so I don't really vote either way. I'm with you guys whatever you want to do because I will always adjust to whatever layout we're on. I see benefits to both sides, I feel like swapping would open new opportunities for the site to grow, but it also kinda closes the doors of where a lot of us came from. Even with the locked archive it's like starting over which can be good or bad. So I'm not much help on the matter lol.

I will say this...the longer you leave this forum open, the harder the inevitable closure of it will be. We switched over to VBulliten when our original forum crashed, so it was kind of forced on our end...the original data was missed but there's very little now that was on the old forum that isn't on the new one. The transition would be easier here because you still would have that archive, which we didn't.

I mostly disagree for pretty much the same reasons as Rick. Cole has a lot of good points.
For the moment I can say that I got used to this layout here very quickly.
If a change really had to be done it seems like it would ideal to use our accounts of the members galleries that some of use already have.

I already said that members of the member galleries would already be a member of the new forum if a switch were to happen...

Jean is just agreeing with what you said, that utilizing the existing memberships is an ideal situation should we make the change.
